Dream of feeding by Dr harold Gunatillake

It is all about organisations like World Food Production and other groups showing their generosity to feed the hungry people in Sri Lanka.

An opportunity to share the joy of helping a starving person 80% of Sri Lanka’s land is in dry and intermediate zones, which face frequent water shortages 15% of children under 5 suffer from wasting 17%of children under five are stunted Sri Lanka is experiencing its worst economic crisis since its independence in 1948. It comes on the heels of successive waves of COVID-19 threatening to undo years of development progress, severely undermining the country’s ability to achieve the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

More than 6 million people – nearly 30 per cent of the population – are currently foodinsecure and require humanitarian assistance. Reduced domestic agricultural production, scarcity of foreign exchange reserves and depreciation of the local currency have caused food shortages and a spike in the cost of living, limiting people’s access to healthy and affordable meals.

The economic crisis will push families into hunger and poverty – some for the first time – adding to the half a million people whom the World Bank estimates have fallen below the poverty line because of the pandemic. The latest WFP assessment reveals that 86 per cent of families buy cheaper, less nutritious food, eat less and sometimes skip meals altogether.

Before the economic crisis and the pandemic, malnutrition rates across Sri Lanka were already high. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Lankan women and children suffered from far higher malnutrition rates than most middle-income countries: 17 per cent of children under 5 were too short because of stunting, and 15 per cent were too thin for their height (wasted). The current economic crisis will likely aggravate this further.  https://youtu.be/uFZTAkN_IDY  Website: www.Doctorharold.com In addition, weather extremes such as droughts, floods and landslides heighten food and nutrition insecurity.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has been working with the Government of Sri Lanka since 1968 to address malnutrition, support families to access food and improve the productivity and incomes of smallholder farmers.
WFP is scaling up its operations to support 3.4 million people between June and December 2022 whose food security, nutrition and livelihoods are at risk.

Situation Updates • Sri Lanka continues to experience a devastating economic and food crisis that has beset millions of households. Food prices continued to skyrocket in July, making it increasingly difficult for low-income households. • According to the Colombo Consumer Price Index, food inflation (year-on-year) increased to 90.9 per cent in July 2022 from 80.1 per cent last month. • An alarming 6.3 million people (about 3 in 10 households) were foodinsecure in June 2022, according to preliminary findings from WFP and FAO’s joint Crop and Food Security Assessment Mission (CFSAM). Of this number, 66,000 people were severely food-insecure; these numbers are expected to be higher in subsequent months. A full CFSAM report is scheduled to be released by August.
The U.S. Donates 3,000 metric tons of food to feed Sri Lankan children. Colombo, August 26, 2022: Today, the United States, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and in partnership with Save the Children, donated 320 metric tons of split yellow peas to nourish school children across Sri Lanka. The donation is part of a larger one of 3,000 metric tons of food. U.S. Ambassador Julie Chung, the Hon. Dr Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Education, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the National Planning Department, and Save the Children attended the handover ceremony.

“This donation from the American people targets the most vulnerable Sri Lankans – children – and enables them to focus on their schooling rather than their hunger. Every nourishing meal will be a testament to the U.S.’s commitment to helping all Sri Lankans emerge from the worst economic crisis since independence,” said Ambassador Julie Chung.

You can make your dream come true: feed starving children and adults by sending food parcels through organised groups.

Those living in Australia can always help these poor people by ordering your food parcels through the eLanka shop.
Sri Lankan superheroes came from America to fulfil the dreams of little hearts.

There is a thriving social environment around Washington, Maryland. There is nothing to think that a school child living in such an environment cannot get based on needs. But due to the limitations of human and physical resources, some children have limited education in a country like Sri Lanka.

How humanising would it be if a project based on donation was started for the children of any country in the world who cannot make their dreams a reality due to limited needs? This story’s three American children born to Sri Lankan parents will pave the way to such a turning point.

The Donate For Dreams organisation of the three American children, Rithma Premaratne (16), Savi Peiris (17) and Ovini Wijesundara (16), is also an excellent tree of thoughts that arose with such a noble purpose in mind. No one has yet realised the wealth of sympathy, kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every proper education should be to unlock that treasure. Quote by Emma Goldman So, viewers, happiness exists on earth, and it is won through prudent exercise of reason, knowledge of the harmony of the universe, and constant practice of generosity.

Stay safe, and goodbye for now.
