Enroute & In Retirement By Noor R. Rahim
There I stand in the shadows of old age
The deepening shadow casting a disturbing message
That very soon I shall reach my retiring age
The spirit may be willing but the body shows slippage
Very often do I hear my co-workers’ loud message
“You lucky guy” – But this in no way does encourage
One who needs to keep his body & soul in bondage
To the lifelong “Work-Life” habits and challenge(s)
But as time goes on; the inkling of retirement comes of age
The reality sinks in; with retirement bringing in the work stoppage
Most would say how fortunate I am at this merge
No more worries; and the freedom to whatever I wish to indulge
But the difficulties arise; with time on your hands and its’ passage
Yes seven Sundays in a week has its’ advantages & disadvantage(s)
With only an income that is a percentage
You soon find out that you are living on a Financial Edge
Freedom from work & related stress has reached the reality stage
Relating the knowledge gained into retired life becomes a challenge
You soon find out that the past work experience is now a deemed wastage
But retirement does bring along the free time and the challenge for it’s usage
