Sri Lanka’s women cricketer’s stunned Asia by storming into the final By TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE

Sri Lanka’s women cricketer’s stunned Asia by storming into the final of the Asia Cup for the first time signalling a welcome climb to a position of respect.

The game against India in the final, will no doubt be akin to scaling the Himalayas, but a new belief has taken hold of their mindset after overcoming all before them including a nail biter against Pakistan in the semis.

Chamari Athapattu leads a team that for once are not all dependant on her own performances with the bat which has been a normal feature of the team.

Well rounded, and with self belief, the Lankan women are excited at the prospect of emulating the men who stunned the recent edition to grab bragging rights in Asia.

Much like the men’s team now playing at the T20 World Cup in Australia, the uncertainty around the limited over game throws out a reasonable mental belief that anything is possible on your day.

While form and World standings strongly suggests that India will run away with the title, the Lankan lasses have every right to believe they can turn the tables on their superior opponents.

Whatever the outcome, they can return home euphoric of their heroic efforts
