“A HERITAGE OF SONG” Vol.2

by Desmond Kelly

The “title” itself is “as beautiful as it gets”. In addition to my introduction in the books themselves, with the coming of “Volume 2”, for the moment.! In addition to my introduction in the books themselves, with the coming of “Volume 2”, for the moment.! Congratulations should go to “Personalities” such as Ishan Bahar, Dallas Achilles, Derrick Junkeer & their families, for the “Organization” of the entire project, & “Personalities” such as Victor Melder, Michael Fernandez of “The Lanka Time,  & most recently Neil Jayasekera of eLanka, for the valuable “publicity” that has been so kindly provided & last, but by no means, least, to the dozens of “Personalities” involved in these books. “Collectors'” Items, to the “enth degree, Show-Casing Sri-Lanka’s various,  highly talented

“Musical-Entertainers” , past, present & into the futurehopefully.  Just look at the “image”on the cover of this2nd book. This little guy will treasure the work of his famous grandfather sometime in the years to come.

“A HERITAGE OF SONG”

“A HISTORY OF SRI LANKAN SHOWBIZ”

COMPILED BY ISHAN BAHAR

FROM AN “IDEA”, COMPLETELY HIS,

“A HERITAGE OF SONG”

WRITTEN “ESPECIALLY FOR YOU”

ARE TWO BOOKS THAT YOU MUST HAVE

IF IT’S “MUSIC & SONG”, THAT YOU DO.

D.K..

As a “writer”, when praise is due, I  give it. Where HE got it from, I haven’t a clue, but it was an idea too good to be true,(putting it poetically), as I tend to do. When I first heard of it, I blinked in amazement.I then thought, ISHAN  is a real “sucker for punishment” !! Anyway, seriously, there are, & were, SO MANY Entertainers, Musicians, Bands, plus ” Persons who are the proud  products”of  that little Island in which we were all born. It “beggers belief that anyone would even TRY to compile a book (now books), of this nature, bringing in the “stories” of people silly enough to even think that “this Showbiz” would make them their fortunes. This fickle “business” would have to be the most difficult, in the World.  Yet,  most of us, Lankans would give our false,-.oops,”eyeteeth” to be “Stars” of Stage, Screen or Television,.Sometimes, all three.! Oh, goodness gracious me.!!

Hopefully, details will come in later, On “eLanka”, the foremost Lankan/Australian Website that I am very proud to be part of, and, for the more elderly among us, who would rather wield a “fishing-line”, in their hands, In the best English/Sinhala local Newspaper in Melb., Australia, The Lanka Times, of which I am also proud to be the Editor. After speaking with both Ishan & Dallas, God willing, I intend to bring out a “monthly special” re-run of “articles” in Ishan’s great books, depending, of course, on “Artistes” who are willing to permit us to do this. The “Heritage of Song” stories will remain the same. Each is an “individual” one, each is a proud one &, to top it off, each will be a personal &  interesting one. It is simply to remind all of us that a  Heritage of Song”, is, in plain & simple English, a true heritage we should all be very proud of. Yes, most of the “Artistes/Bands & Groups” in A.H.O.S.did not get the chance to “record” their songs for posterity. Only some of us, the luckier ones, were able to do this, but, this takes nothing away from the love & talent of EVERYONE in Ishan’s  already famous “HERITAGE OF SONG” Volumes 1 & 2., the “TITLE” of which, alone,I think,  is beautiful enough to “TELL THE ENTIRE STORY.  Once again, my humble thanks to everyone in A.H.O.S.

 “A”lways treasure “your claim”

“H”eritage, of Music & Fame

“O”ften,  thru heartache & pain

“S”how-biz”, the “name of the game”.
