Hornsby Art Prize exhibition opens this October, showcasing a variety of contemporary art
A vibrant showcase of contemporary Australian art will take centre stage at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre from 16 October to 1 November, as Hornsby Shire Council presents the 2026 Hornsby Art Prize Finalists’ Exhibition.
The Hornsby Art Prize – delivered by Hornsby Shire Council in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society – continues to attract national attention, with 567 entries received from across the country. This year, 86 outstanding artworks across painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, and printmaking have been shortlisted for exhibition.
The art prize has a total prize pool of $23,000, including a $10,000 major prize.
Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell said the exhibition reflects the important role arts and culture play in bringing communities together.
“The Hornsby Art Prize gives our community the opportunity to experience an exceptional range of contemporary Australian artworks right here in Hornsby.
“Every piece in this exhibition offers a unique perspective and tells a different story. I encourage residents and visitors alike to explore the exhibition and celebrate the creativity and talent of artists from across the country.”
This year’s judging panel includes Archibald Prize winning artist Guido Maestri and acclaimed still life painter Mirra Whale.

Winners of the Hornsby Art Prize, including the Hornsby Shire Local Artist Award, will be announced at an award ceremony on Friday 16 October.
The exhibition is open to the public from 16 October to 1 November, Tuesday to Sunday, 10am–4pm. Entry is free.
