India recorded a comprehensive 67-run win over the touring Sri Lankan side in the 1 st game of 3 match ODI series in Rajkot. Sri Lanka who won the toss and opted to bowl first had no clue whatsoever in their bowling effort where India’s batters easily dominated the Sri Lankan bowling attack and cruised easily throughout the whole inning. Almost the whole Indian top order made some statement innings where openers Rohit Sharma and Subman Gill scored hefty half-centuries to set up the tone for their star batter Virat Kohli to come and score a fine century for India to post a mammoth 373 runs for a loss of 7 wickets.

In the reply, Sri Lanka got on to the worst start possible where Avishka Fernando who made a comeback to the national side fell for 5 runs and followed up with Kusal Mendis falling for a duck. Pathum Nissanka who scored a brilliant half-century tried to build up the innings alongside his fellow batters but fell for a good knock of 72 off 80 deliveries. After Nissanka’s dismissal, many may have thought Sri Lanka would fall quickly but they found some magic in their captain Dasun Shanaka who scored a brilliant century to take Sri Lanka to a statement total of 308 for a loss of 8 wickets. All credit must go to India for their brilliant display with the bat and doing enough with the ball to secure a 67-run victory, but the Sri Lankan lions can keep their heads high backing their effort with the bat and make a possible comeback in the second ODI as an improved team.
