In an exciting and closely fought Joe Pete cricket match between the old boys of St. Joseph’s and St. Peter’s College, held at Kareela Reserve on 15 September 2024, St. Peter’s College emerged victorious in both Masters and Open match.

Masters games were Captained by Upeka Perera for St Joseph’s and Senarath Senevirathna for St Peters.

Peterites won the Masters match defeating Joes by 5 wickets and the open match by a margin of 111 runs.

First Innings – St Peter’s Old Boys (Petes)

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Petes got off to a flying start, Denver leading the charge with 46 not out. He was well supported by Krishane contributing a solid 32, Sherwin, whose aggressive 37-run innings helped push the Petes’ total to a formidable 202. Skipper Trevine chipped in with a valuable 19, providing crucial middle-order stability, while Spiridon’s quick 22 added to the team’s dominant batting performance.

Josephian bowlers were inconsistent, despite Randy Ebert taking 2 wickets for 46, Julian Diaz 2 for 39 and Pramuka Pereras 2 for 39.Joes struggled to contain the aggressive stroke play of the Petes’ batsmen. St. Peter’s finished their innings with an imposing total of 202.

*Second Innings – St Joseph’s Old Boys (Joes)

In response, the Joes found themselves under immense pressure from the get-go. Sohan (14) started aggressively as always with boundary and six in first few balls and Dylan F dopulles solid 34 while helped by skipper Delan Daniels 13 were the only batsmen to offer any real resistance, the rest of the batting order faltered. Sherwins devastating spell of 3 wickets for 19 runs rattled the middle order, while Shanike and Spiridions slow off breaks further dismantled the Joes’ chase.
Peterites excellent fielding was the game changer when they ran out 4 joes batters and held on to amazing two catches.

Joes middle order had no answers this time to the relentless Peterite bowling and fielding, Joes were eventually bowled out for 91 runs, well short of the target.
