MEDIA RELEASE: SCOTLAND TO HOST AUSTRALIA IN MEN’S T20 SERIES IN SEPTEMBER

Cricket Scotland and Cricket Australia are delighted to announce confirmation of a men’s T20 international series in Scotland in September 2024.

Three T20 internationals will take place between the sides at The Grange, Edinburgh on 4, 6 and 7 September, ahead of Australia’s fixtures against England later in the month.

The matches will be the first to be played by Australia’s men in Scotland since 2013, when the sides played an ODI at The Grange, with the visitors running out winners. The most recent meeting was at the 2015 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, with Australia again triumphant.

The announcement comes on the eve of the clash between Scotland and Australia in St Lucia in Group B of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Trudy Lindblade, Cricket Scotland Chief Executive, said:

“We are delighted to announce these fixtures, which will be a great way to finish off what has been a momentous summer for Scottish cricket. Our women’s team qualified for their first ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup later this year, while our men’s team have done the nation proud during their current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign.

“We have a men’s ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 home series to look forward to in July, followed by the U19 Women’s World Cup Europe Qualifier in August, and to then have the reigning men’s ODI and Test champions and no.2 ranked T20I nation visit us in Scotland is something we should celebrate. We hope everyone who supports Scottish cricket will help us fill The Grange in Edinburgh for the three matches, united as a community in our passion for the game of cricket.

“A huge amount of work is being done to improve Scottish cricket across all levels and I thank everyone for their ongoing support as together we strive to make Scottish cricket better every day. We are proud of the work that our volunteers, coaches, administrators, match officials and players put in each week to grow the game. It is a wonderful opportunity for many of them to be involved in a match where our nation’s best do battle against world class opponents on home soil.”

Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia Chief Executive said:

“We are grateful to Cricket Scotland for hosting what will be an enjoyable and challenging series as part of our white ball tour of Britain.

“It has been fantastic to see the development of the Scotland teams, both during the current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and their qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in October.

“It is a strategic priority of Australian Cricket to support the growth of cricket around the world and I’m sure this series will help create even more interest in the game at all levels in Scotland.”

Richie Berrington, Scotland captain, said:

“It’s fantastic to have this home series to look forward later in the summer, which should be a treat for all our supporters.

“I was fortunate enough to play in the Scotland side when Australia last visited 2013, and although the result didn’t go our way that day, it was a tremendous occasion to be part of.

“Our players always relish the opportunity to test themselves against the best sides in the world, and we’ve shown good form in this World Cup so far, so I’m sure it’ll be an exciting and competitive series.

Mitch Marsh, Australia T20 captain, said:

“I’m really excited about the trip and the series in Scotland, and I know the team is pretty pumped about it as well.

“My brother Shaun was lucky enough to play in the last game we played in Edinburgh and had nothing but good things to say, so it will be great to follow in his footsteps.

“Scotland have developed into a really good unit as we’ve seen at this World Cup. It will be a great privilege to play them on home turf.”

Information regarding ticketing and match starting times will be communicated in early July. Hospitality opportunities will be made available through Matchpoint, again with details to follow.
