Navi Pillay Honoured: A Legacy of Peace, Justice and Human Rights

Congratulations to Navi Pillay on this extraordinary and well-deserved Nobel Peace Prize.
Navi is a mentor, and friend to me and my partner. It was an honour to have her deliver the inaugural N. Sivalingam Memorial Lecture at York, in memory of my late father-in-law.
In recognition of her visit to Canada, painter Victor Emmanual presented a painting called “A birth of a nation” inspired by the South African anti-apartheid movement. The Tamil community also established a bursary in her honour at Osgoode Hall Law School.
Her visit to Morrish Public School where she met and engaged young people has left a remarkable impression to the kids (now adults) who look up to her.

Félicitations à Navi Pillay pour ce prix Nobel de la paix extraordinaire et amplement mérité.
Navi est une mentore et une amie pour ma conjointe et moi. Ce fut un honneur de l’accueillir à York pour qu’elle prononce la conférence inaugurale à la mémoire de N. Sivalingam, mon regretté beau-père.
Pour souligner sa visite au Canada, le peintre Victor Emmanual lui a offert un tableau intitulé « La naissance d’une nation », inspiré du mouvement sud-africain de lutte contre l’apartheid. La communauté tamoule a également créé une bourse en son honneur à l’Osgoode Hall Law School.
Sa visite à l’école publique Morrish, où elle a rencontré des jeunes et échangé avec eux, a laissé une empreinte profonde chez ces enfants, aujourd’hui adultes, qui continuent de la considérer comme un modèle.

Vous avez allumé la flamme de la paix, de la justice et des droits de la personne et vous avez touché la vie de tant de gens à travers le monde.
