Peterites stun Australians as Vidyartha snatch last minute win over Malaysians in Centenary Sevens

St. Peter’s College scored a shock win over the Australian team from the University of Technology in Sydney beating them by 24 points to 5 in their Centenary Rugby Sevens match at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The first half ended in a close 5-5 score but the Peterites out-ran and outsmarted the Australian boys in a one-sided contest in the second half.

The Peterites started off the first day’s proceedings by smashing off Thurstan 29-0 and then went on to beat Zahira College 38-8 before taking on the foreign team.

In what was probably the most exciting match of the day Vidyartha College Kandy snatched a super win over the team from Malaysia called Negri SRU by 31 points to 26.

The scores were deadlocked at 26-26 and with play continuing and the final whistle left the Kandy lads scored a try to seal the result.

Vidyartha also beat another foreign team Bahrain RFC 50-0 and the highest score for the day was recorded by Negri when they beat Bahrain RFC 66-0.

Another school from Kandy, Sri Sumangala beat Bahrain RFC by 38 points to 12 after they conceded a try to their opponents in the first minute of play.

But Sri Sumangala hit back scoring three tries within four minutes to snatch a 19-17 half time lead.
