Prime Minister Modi’s administration on progressive track ,despite political bickerings – By N.S.Venkataraman

N.S.VenkataramanFor a casual observer ,whether in India or outside India, it would seem that India is now passing through a stage of deep political division and unease. Section of  media in India and  in a few western countries  too, largely focus and report on political happenings and vituperative remarks made by some political leaders in India , rather than  highlighting  the ongoing   growth oriented activities in economic, industrial  ,social   and cultural sphere . Such media reports  contribute  to  the formation of negative views about the trends and happenings in India  to some extent.   But, the ground reality is that there are many positive developments taking place at remarkable speed  in the recent years , which are often under reported in the media  which seem to be excessively focused on political scenario.

More noise than debate in parliament :

In the on going parliamentary session, there is  more noise , shoutings  and walk outs rather than constructive debates and   discussions. Unfortunately, some of the Indian parliamentarians behave  in such an indisciplined manner in parliament ,  that has cause concern  amongst people.  In any case, it appears that the Indian citizens , by and large, have reconciled themselves to  such behaviour pattern of politicians  and have  started  thinking that such conditions are the price that the  country has  to pay for having a democratic set up , which otherwise  is a very desirable form of governance.  Section of  people   are also of the view that the behaviour pattern of the  politicians in other democratic countries  are not any better on most occasions.

Modi’s focus on governance :

In such scenario, what is remarkable is that Prime Minister Modi  remains totally focused on governance , ignoring the political cat calls and motivated noise   and abusive personal remarks being made against him by some political leaders and others.  .

Seeing Modi’s    style of functioning  , it is clear that Modi is determined to do whatever possible for him in the given circumstances to achieve the target that he has fixed  for India  by the year 2047  which is termed as Viksit Bharat.  This Viksit Bharat 2047 initiative envisions India as a developed nation by the centenary of its independence in 2047. This transformative roadmap emphasizes inclusive development, sustainable progress, and effective governance.

Indian economy  need to grow at over 7% per annum along with robust fiscal framework to meet Viksit Bharat target and reach the size of 30 trillion US dollar for Indian economy by the year 2047.

Obviously, Viksit Bharat target can be achieved only by holistic development in several spheres  simultaneously including social reforms, optimum distribution of income and opportunities, improving the standards of education , implementing massive infrastructure projects , economic and industrial development schemes at high efficiency standards and overall improvement in the happiness index in the country.

Modi’s initiatives on multiple directions include promotion of yoga culture to improve personal discipline,  clean India campaign, massive digitalisation scheme, health insurance scheme , start up India scheme to promote entrepreneur initiative where already 1.25 lakh start up projects have been registered in the country, promotion of skilling and up skilling  amongst people , one nation one tax, one nation one ration card,  one nation one health card, women empowerment  and quite a number of other schemes.

There is remarkable progress in building roadways and  the upgradation and development of railway stations and airports, development of drinking water schemes etc.

Modi has promised that India would reach zero emission by the year 2070 which is a very tall target.  To achieve this target, the renewable energy projects are being set up at great speed, production of electric vehicles have been stepped up, green energy production programme have been encouraged  and   so on.  All such projects are now in work in progress stage, with close follow up at the level Prime Minister himself.

The positive trends are already evident by the  fast  growing economy and India has already emerged  as the fifth-largest economy in the world, with a size of U.S. $3 trillion. India is forging ahead  to  be the third-largest economy in the world in the next three years at   US $ 5 trillion.

Formidable issues and a determined Prime Minister :

The hardworking and strongly motivated Prime Minister Modi appears to be very clear on the task ahead of him and several of his recent initiatives make it clear beyond doubt that Modi has only one tunnel vision of achieving all round growth to move on towards achieving the target..

India is a complex country with multiple cultures  with several languages spoken and with staggering population of over 1400 million people with population still increasing at  around 1.5 to 2% per year.

With a democratic set up and near absolute freedom enjoyed by the  people to live and speak in the way they want and with several millions of people still living  below poverty line, governing India in a smooth manner  with a vision for target  needs a leader of extraordinary standards, commitment and integrity.

Certainly, the political climate in India is not going to change significantly in the immediate future and some issues such as corruption in governance  particularly at local levels and caste  conflicts are not likely to go away anytime soon.

At the current time, Modi appears to be the man for the job with not only courage of conviction but immense level of patience to face   criticisms and nevertheless determined to move on strongly with plans and projects to take India ahead to reach the target of Viksit Bharat 2047.
