RUSSIA AND CHINA PROVE “MIGHT IS RIGHT” – By N.S.Venkataraman
Israel continues to attack Gaza, even though most part of Gaza and nearby regions have been devastated by bombing by Israel over the last several months. Still, many people seem to think that Israel is a victim of onslaught and attack by Hamas, as Hamas invaded Israel and killed hundreds of Israel citizens and captured number of them as hostages.. Some of the hostages have died and some of them are still kept without being released by Hamas.
In this case, Israel has not started the war but only reacted to the violence unleashed on Israel by Hamas ,who are widely viewed as Islamic terrorists , though Hamas claim that they are liberators. Israel is deemed to be a defender.
Russia’s aggression over Ukraine viewed differently :
However, when Russia continues to attack Ukraine , even after substantial part of Ukraine has been devastated , several infrastructure projects destroyed , thousands of Ukraine citizens have died and millions of people have gone out of Ukraine as refugees to other countries to save themselves from Russian attack. Certainly, the world views the attack and aggression by Russia against Ukraine differently from the way the world views the attack by Israel against Hamas.
Russia thinks “might is right”
In the case of Ukraine Russia war, Russia is clearly the aggressor as it has started the war. Russia started attacking Ukraine justifying that it has to do so to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. But, the ground reality was that NATO never decided to admit Ukraine and all that has been done by Ukraine was only to request NATO to admit Ukraine as member. So many other countries bordering Russia are now members of NATO and Russia has not objected to this. Obviously, Russia wanted an excuse to attack Ukraine and occupy atleast some regions in Ukraine. Russia’s so called apprehension about Ukraine joining NATO was only an excuse.
Ukraine has been able to survive brutal attack from Russia so far, only due to the support extended by European Union, UK , and USA. However, with Trump taking over as President of USA , the scenario has completely changed with Trump openly supporting Russia and has now even gone to the extent of stating that Crimea in Ukraine should stay with Russia . In short , Trump wants Ukraine to virtually surrender to Russian aggression and Trump wants Russia to enjoy the fruits of aggression.
One gets an impression that President Trump also seems to think that might is right, just like Russia .
China too thinks might is right :
China’s aggression of Tibet , which it has been occupying for last several decades with tight grip , is yet another incident to prove that might is right in the world. China aggressively entered Tibet , massacred thousands of Tibetans who protested and is now sitting pretty in Tibet and having its hold over this helpless country wholly and totally.
When China entered Tibet, there was no worthwhile protest from other countries including India and Tibet was left to suffer and at the mercy of China.. While some criticisms have been levelled against Chinese aggression over Tibet, China has treated such world opinion with contempt just like Russia is doing now.
World Civilisation – A far cry :
This above scenario clearly highlights that in the world today, the countries and terrorist groups , which have muscle power and strong military power can call the shots. The present condition further show that such aggressors do not care about the world opinion and the world view and whatever the criticisms and observations made by UNO are impotent and are of no consequence.
From time immemorial, violence and wars have bene happening in the world and obviously, the mental make up of humans have not undergone any change at all. It appears that it is established rule in the world that might is right and the weak has to necessarily suffer and submit against those who think that they can attack the weak and get away with it.
In such circumstances, any claim that world civilisation has improved or progressed is a view in vacuum and a hollow claim.
The technology and scientific development have not touched the mind set of the humans to make them more civilised. While a few peace lovers and deep thinkers and saints have been preaching peace and harmony, they are only cry in the wilderness.
