On Sunday, 20 September 2026, the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Meditation Monastery of Brisbane came alive with ShākyaRashmi 2026, the inaugural annual showcase of the Mount Crosby Language & Mindfulness School.
Established under the guidance of the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Meditation Monastery of Brisbane, the school aims to nurture children growing up in Australia through the teachings and values of the Buddha, while strengthening their connection with the Sinhala language and Sri Lankan cultural heritage.
ShākyaRashmi was more than a children’s concert. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 10 brought their year-long learning to life through Pirith chanting, Buddhist stories and dramas, devotional songs, instrumental music and cultural performances. Messages of loving-kindness, compassion, gratitude, respect for parents and wholesome conduct were woven throughout the programme, allowing children to express Dhamma through creativity and the arts.

The event was honoured by the presence of Cr Greg Adermann, Councillor for Pullenvale Ward, who reflected on the importance of preserving culture, nurturing young people and building strong, connected communities.
A memorable finale was the colourful Dalada Perahera, inspired by Sri Lanka’s Kandy Esala Perahera, featuring traditional drumming, dancing, flags and ceremonial costumes.
For families living far from Sri Lanka, ShākyaRashmi 2026 became a meaningful bridge between generations, celebrating Dhamma, culture and a young generation carrying these precious values into the future.
