Sony Appoints Sri Lanka’s Lakshitha Karunaratna as Regional Ambassador for Wildlife Photography

Sony Appoints Sri Lanka’s Lakshitha Karunaratna as Regional Ambassador for Wildlife Photography 01

06th June 2025, Colombo: Sony, in collaboration with CameraLK, the leading camera retail giant in Sri Lanka, officially announced the appointment of renowned Sri Lankan wildlife photographer Lakshitha Karunaratna as the Sony Regional Ambassador for Wildlife Photography, making him the first Sri Lankan to be selected for this prestigious role.

The ceremonial signing took place, in the presence of representatives from Sony, CameraLK, and leading figures from Sri Lanka’s creative community. Lakshitha’s appointment spans the South and South East Asia region — including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Mongolia, Nepal, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and beyond. His work will be featured and published on Sony’s platforms across this region.

This milestone appointment recognizes Lakshitha’s extraordinary talent, deep commitment to wildlife storytelling, and his significant contribution to the growth of nature and conservation photography in Sri Lanka. With years of experience capturing rare and compelling moments in the wild, his photography has inspired both local and global audiences.

Welcoming the new ambassador, Bae Jihoon – Deputy Director, Regional Marketing Development Centre (RMDC), Sony Electronics (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., commented, “Lakshitha’s appointment as our Regional Ambassador is a reflection of our commitment to supporting and spotlighting exceptional creators from across the region. His unique vision and dedication to wildlife photography make him an ideal representative for the Sony brand.”

As the official Sony Regional Ambassador for Wildlife Photography, Lakshitha will represent Sony in regional campaigns and educational initiatives. His appointment also opens up new avenues for Sri Lanka to gain global visibility — particularly in the areas of conservation, visual storytelling, and nature-based tourism. His work has the potential to not only inspire international audiences but also position Sri Lanka as a must-visit destination for wildlife and photography enthusiasts.

Anushka Gunasinghe, Managing Director of CameraLK, expressed his pride in the appointment, stating, “We are honoured to witness one of Sri Lanka’s own being recognised by a global giant like Sony. At CameraLK, we are committed to empowering our local creators by providing them with the best tools and opportunities to excel on the global stage. Lakshitha’s journey has been an inspiration to many, and this partnership is a huge win not only for him, but for the entire photography community in Sri Lanka.”

Lakshitha Karunaratna also shared his thoughts, saying, “It’s an incredible honour to be appointed as Sony’s Regional Ambassador. This recognition is not just a personal milestone, but a chance to represent Sri Lanka’s vibrant wildlife and photography culture on an international stage. I’m excited to share stories from the wild and continue inspiring a deeper connection to nature through my lens.”

Sony’s Regional Ambassador program is designed to empower creative professionals and highlight their stories, skills, and perspectives. Lakshitha’s inclusion marks a key moment in the evolving landscape of wildlife photography in Sri Lanka and beyond.
