Sri Lanka hosts the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship 2025!

Sri Lanka hosts the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship 2025! 01

Over 200 competitors from 20 nations are expected in Colombo next month

Colombo, Sri Lanka – For the first time in history, Sri Lanka will host the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship 2025, a landmark international event sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the world governing body for motorsport. It will take place from 26th to 28th September 2025 at the Speedbay Karting Circuit in Bandaragama, the only track in the country built to FIA-CIK standards.

This prestigious championship is organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC), the oldest motorsports club on the island, and Sri Lanka’s FIA Autorité Sportive Nationale (ASN). The event is collaboratively organised by the regional ASNs of the Asia Pacific, thus it is set to be a major milestone for the nation’s motorsport landscape.

The Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship (APMC) was created to provide a cost-conscious, accessible, and unified platform that brings together the very best talents in motorsports across a variety of disciplines, giving the region’s top drivers and teams an opportunity to compete at the highest level. The event builds on the success of the inaugural edition held in Sepang, Malaysia, in 2023, which brought together 171 competitors from 23 nations.

This year’s championship will feature six categories designed to highlight both grassroots talent and the emerging new generation of competitors. These include E-Sport Racing, FIA Cross Car Autocross using locally manufactured FIA Cross Cars, Hyundai Auto Gymkhana using locally assembled Hyundai Grand i10s with the support of Abans Auto, Karting Slalom, Karting Sprint, and Karting Endurance. Arrive-and-drive packages will make the event accessible to a wider pool of participants while ensuring international standards of competition.

FIA Secretary General for Sport, Valerio Iachizzi, said, “The Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship 2025 will celebrate the unity of the region and the passion of motorsport. Featuring six disciplines, this event will showcase the depth and the skills of an entire region. This year is special because the FIA Affordable Cross Car will make its debut, and we will see the talent and the skills of the new drivers.

FIA Vice President for the Asia Pacific Region, Lung-Nien Lee, commented, “I’m so excited about the up-and-coming Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship taking place in Sri Lanka. This is the second year we’re doing the APMC. The first year was two years ago in Malaysia, and this year we’re expecting over 20 countries flying in, along with over 200 participants, including volunteers and officials. I look forward to seeing everyone in Sri Lanka.”

For Sri Lanka, hosting the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship places the country further on the international map as a motorsport destination, while giving local drivers and teams an unprecedented opportunity to compete alongside some of the region’s best and showcase their skills on a unified stage that can lead to broader recognition internationally. Founded in 1934, the Ceylon Motor Sports Club is Sri Lanka’s oldest motorsport body and has been instrumental in shaping the history of racing in the country.
