Sri Lanka is ready to host the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo in the middle of May which will be the highlight of that month.

The management of the Asian Boxing Confederation officially announced earlier this month that the next edition of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships will be held in the city of Colombo, Sri Lanka on May 10-24.

The boxers who were born in 2003, 2004, 2005 and in 2006 will be eligible to participate in the U22 age group in Colombo. The boxers who are members of the 2007 and 2008 age groups will have the right to compete in the youth part of the busy championships.

Sri Lanka has never hosted any of the Asian Boxing Championships therefore the upcoming championships will be not only a historic edition in the South Asian country, but also a new milestone in their boxing life.

The President of the Sri Lankan Boxing, Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara arranged so many competitions in the country in the previous half year and he underlined the importance to host an Asian Championships in Colombo to reach further historic results after their bronze from the recent ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.

The management of Sri Lanka Boxing hosted their Layton Cup in the beginning of October and the competition was a great success. Following the preliminaries and quarter-finals, the final competition days took place in the Galle Face Green, in a wonderful park to introduce the sport to the public.

The Clifford Cup was moved to the middle of the island to the city of Kandy and the competition supported the first ever Referee & Judge Course in Sri Lanka. The finals of the Clifford Cup had strong interest from the public and several of the top officials were invited to the competition on December 2024.

Their National Boxing Championships was held in the Galle Face Green in Colombo on January which was a selection competition for 2025.

Sri Lanka will have still some events before the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships as well and the country plans training camps for their best hopes.

One of the top local media companies, the PEO Sports plans to stream the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships from the first competition day in order to promote boxing in Sri Lanka.
