‘Sri Lanka Leopard Dynasty’ produced by ‘Aegle Creations PVT Ltd – Sri Lanka’ will initially make its premiere on German Television (on November 13, 2022). Thereafter, there will be a global release on Nat Geo WILD, where it will be dubbed and shown in different languages. This is the third International Wildlife Documentary Film produced by Aegle Creations over the last three years.

‘Sri Lanka – Leopard Dynasty’ was screened at the GREEN SCREEN FILM FESTIVAL and WILDLIFE VAASA INTERNATIONAL NATURE FILM FESTIVAL (2022) IN GERMANY along with its acquisition by National Geographic. This is the first WildLife documentary produced by a Sri Lankan Production Company to be acquired and telecast on National Geographic. This documentary follows several leopard families in the lowlands of Sri Lanka. The documentary, “SRI LANKA. LEOPARD DYNASTY”, which spans over 50 minutes, captures breathtaking visuals of Sri Lanka’s apex predator – the Sri Lankan Leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya).

The director, writer and editor of the film – Thivanka Rukshan Perera – is an alumni of Academy of Art University in San Francisco, USA and a BFA (Hon) – in Motion Picture and Television. He has spearheaded the Sri Lanka-based production company ‘Aegle Creations (Pvt) Ltd’ since 2018, and has produced a number of international documentary films in the past. His first documentary “Wild Sri Lanka – Realm of the Leopard” was shown on Discovery (Asia) Channel, Animal Planet, USHUAIA TV (France), VIASAT NATURE channel in the Nordic countries. The cameraman of this documentary is Dhanusha P. Bandara, while Roshan Perera worked at the focus. According to Thivanka, this documentary was produced with much difficulty, as it faced numerous obstacles including the COVID pandemic that restricted travel for many months. However, “Sri Lanka – Leopard Dynasty” was successfully completed by 2021 and acquired by National Geographic the following year. Currently, it is being dubbed to be shown in different languages worldwide later this year.

Thivanka Perera is a graduate of the Academy of Art University, where he majored in screenwriting. The first short film he wrote “Silent Letter (2016)” was picked up for distribution by ‘Shorts TV’.

His thesis script, ‘Bird of Prey’ was nominated for the annual ‘Michael Collyer Memorial Fellowship’ (USA) in screenwriting and ended up in the top 3 in 2017.

He also wrote/directed several natural history documentaries, including the blue-chip programme “Wild Sri Lanka – Realm of the Leopard” which was broadcast on DISCOVERY (ASIA). His latest production “Sri Lanka – Leopard Dynasty” was acquired by ‘Authentic Distribution’ in Germany. Thivanka has also won several international awards for his shorts films and documentaries.
