Sri Lankan icon Alston Koch raises the flag yet again on WED – By Sanath Weerasuriya

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5th June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment. This year the focus is on the use of plastic that is contaminating this planet Earth, we call home.

But almost seven years ago a Sri Lankan born music icon introduced a song and video years ahead of the World’s most influential scientific and entertainment communities.
Alston Koch and his son James Koch together with Sean Stone of Hollywood ( Son of multi Academy Award winning Hollywood director (‘Oliver Stone ‘) presented this historical video on World TV with the support of Symphony Enviromental taking this message to the World.

Sri Lanka’s iconic and international award winning singer-songwriter and environmental advocate Alston Koch has brought the world to attention by releasing an amazing song and video on World Environment Day years ahead of the advocates of Climate Change and the environment.

This time the negatives of using plastic which has stunned and polluted the land and seas worldwide causing huge environmental damage is portrayed in a beautiful video edited and directed by James Koch. Written and sung by veteran Alston with the support of Sean Stone son of Oliver Stone.

Sean Stone also a Hollywood actor appeared alongside James Koch (screen name ‘Frederick James Koch’) in the Hollywood film ‘NIGHTWALK’ now released in 33 Countries and 19 languages by LIONSGATE films. 

Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Frederick-James studied with the National Institute of Dramatic Arts NIDA and later graduated from the Actors Centre Australia.

Frederick-James made his acting debut as supporting lead in the motion picture ‘A Common Man’ alongside Sir Ben Kingsley followed by supporting roles in films such as Impact: Earth alongside Tom Berringer and most recently in Nightwalk sharing the screen with Mickey Rouke, Eric Roberts and Sean Stone.

Alston Koch is a Sri Lanka born Australian – Sri Lankan singer-songwriter, film producer, record producer and actor. He was often lauded in the Australian and Asian media as “Asia’s King of Pop” or “Pop King of Asia” after gaining international success in the late 1970s. He has performed worldwide and achieved international success in Australia, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Sri Lanka among other places.

He received State of California Senate’s Certificate of Recognition and Certificate of Special US Congressional Recognition for improving the lives of the communities in America.

He migrated to Australia where he was most successful in the entertainment and professional music industry while recording for RCA/Laser Records and the Australian TV Network Channel 9’s ‘Living Sound’ recording label.

In Australia, he formed his band Dark Tan and recorded three international hits on the RCA label. He has performed internationally with Dark Tan, S-witch, and as a solo artiste.
