“TEXAS TORNADO DOUG. SAHM” – By Des Kelly

A child prodigy on Steel-Guitar at age 6, Douglas Sahm went on to become the Founder of the Sir Douglas Quintet, although he was never ever knighted, but simply liked the sound of that name, going on to later add the late great Freddy Fender & Flaco Jimenez to his group of which Augie Meyers was also a member, and called themselves The Texas Tornados.

Sadly, Doug was found dead of natural causes in a hotel room alone, aged just 58 years old, and Freddy Fender, another well-known entertainer also died, a few years after Douglas Sahm, surrounded by his family, after suffering lung cancer. He was only 69 years old. The Texas Tornados became famous also, for their Tejano-style music, mostly sung in Spanish.

This is my tribute to Doug. Sahm, Augie Meyers, Freddy Fender & Flaco Jimenez, a truly superb Accordionist, + the rest of a superb group of Musicians who I believe, really entertained their audiences. Obviously, with their love for the great State of Texas, my introductory song by Doug., is aptly named “Beautiful Texas Sunshine”, exiting with two more great songs as the combined Texas Tornados. Hope all our thousands of readers around the World enjoy this music, that I thought was superb.
