Vision Care Marks World Sight Day 2025 with Awareness Walk Promoting Eye Health

Vision Care Marks World Sight Day 2025 with Awareness Walk Promoting Eye Health 01

In celebration of World Sight Day 2025, Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision, hearing and eyewear solutions provider, in collaboration with the Ceylon Council of Optometry and Orthoptics (CCOO), organized an awareness walk to promote the importance of preventive eye care and regular eye check-ups.

The walk, which commenced from Viharamahadevi Park and concluded at Independence Square, saw enthusiastic participation from optometry professionals, students, and members of the public. Held under the global theme “Love Your Eyes,” the event highlighted the collective responsibility to safeguard vision and the need for timely, professional eye care.

Recent data from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that at least 2.2 billion people globally have some form of near or distance vision impairment and in at least 1 billion of those cases, the condition is preventable or remains unaddressed. These staggering numbers underscore how critical early detection, access to eye care services, and awareness are to reducing the burden of visual impairment worldwide.

The World Sight Day 2025 Awareness Walk served as a symbolic reminder that clear vision begins with awareness. By bringing together eye care professionals, students, and families, the event emphasized that protecting one’s eyesight is a shared responsibility that affects everyone, from children to adults and the elderly.

Speaking at the event, Vidya Jayarathna – Head of Optometry at Vision Care & the Chairman of Ceylon Council of Optometry & Orthoptics (CCOO) stated, “World Sight Day is a powerful reminder that vision care is not a privilege but a necessity. Many visual impairments can be prevented or managed if detected early. Through initiatives like this awareness walk, Vision Care aims to inspire every Sri Lankan to take that simple yet vital step of getting their eyes tested regularly. Clear sight opens the door to limitless possibilities and it all begins with awareness.”

Vision Care urges the public to prioritize regular eye check-ups from childhood through adulthood, emphasizing that many visual impairments can be effectively managed if identified early. By seeking timely testing from qualified eye care professionals, individuals can take proactive steps to protect their eyesight and maintain a better quality of life.

As Sri Lanka’s leading eye care provider, Vision Care offers comprehensive vision and eyewear solutions using state-of-the-art technology and professional expertise. For over three decades, the company has been at the forefront of Sri Lanka’s eye care industry, offering advanced Eye Testing, Spectacles, Sunglasses, and Contact Lenses from world-renowned brands, as well as ocular pharmaceuticals, ensuring that every customer leaves with a clearer and brighter outlook on life.
