Vision Care Turns City Traffic into a Public Awareness Platform for World Optometry Week 2025

Vision Care Turns City Traffic into a Public Awareness Platform for World Optometry Week 2025 01

Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision, hearing, and eyewear solutions provider, successfully marked World Optometry Week 2025 with an innovative mobile awareness campaign, bringing eye health to the forefront of public attention. Aligning with the World Council of Optometry’s (WCO) theme, “Eyes to the Future: Optometry Improving Global Wellness,” Vision Care executed a campaign that successfully transformed busy city streets into a dynamic channel for spreading critical vision care messages.

During the week-long celebration from March 17th to 23rd, Vision Care, along with students of the Vision Care Academy turned two open city tour buses into mobile awareness platforms, making eye health a visible and unavoidable topic of conversation. Vision Care strategically routed these awareness vehicles along some of the busiest roads in Colombo and its suburbs. One bus covered the Moratuwa-Colombo route, while the other traveled from Kottawa through Nugegoda, converging towards the city center. These carefully selected high-traffic routes maximized visibility, allowing the campaign to reach thousands of daily commuters.

This unconventional approach turned city roads into a dynamic engagement platform. The bold branding, eye-catching visuals, and thought-provoking messages on the buses captured the attention of pedestrians and drivers alike, sparking organic discussions about eye health. By leveraging real-time visibility on the move, Vision Care successfully created a campaign that blended accessibility, creativity, and strategic outreach.

Reflecting on the success of the initiative, Vidya Jayarathna, Head of Vision Care Academy cum Head of Optometry, stated, ” At Vision Care, we believe eye health should never be an afterthought. This initiative was not just about raising awareness—it was about inspiring action and encouraging more people to prioritize their eye health by scheduling regular check-ups. We also want to highlight the role Vision Care plays in shaping future optometrists. We are committed to not only training the next generation of optometrists but also instilling in them the importance of making the public aware of eye health. Additionally, this initiative also serves as an awareness campaign about the career opportunities and future prospects available for aspiring optometrists. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the students of the Vision Care Academy, whose dedication and hard work played a key role in bringing this campaign to life.”

With over 30 years of expertise, Vision Care is a pioneer in eye and hearing care in Sri Lanka. The company provides high-quality eye testing, spectacles, sunglasses, contact lenses, and hearing aids. It has also introduced a diverse range of globally recognized eyewear brands, offering customers the latest in style and vision correction solutions.
