Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has apologised to the Australian government, its people and the International Cricket Council (ICC) while Member of Parliament Nalin Bandara has called for the current administration of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to be placed in the hands of an Interim Committee.

Both Ranasinghe and Bandara made their public statements in the aftermath of the Dhanushka Gunathilaka sex episode during the on-going T20 World Cup in Australia that has disgraced the country’s image and jolted millions of adoring cricket followers.

“We apologise to the Autralian government, the Australian people and the International Cricket Council (ICC) for what has happened,” said Minister Ranasinghe who noted that the conduct of the team was, in Sinhalese “Anthima Kathai” in English “Extremely Ugly”.

While praising Sports Minister Ranasinghe for playing with a forthright and straight bat, Nalin Bandara said a thorough investigation has to be done to clean up cricket.

“The management of cricket in this country is responsible for what happened. I am glad cricket officials have so far not being able to get present (sports) Minister Ranasinghe onto their shoulders. There is match fixing and these things never happened when we had Interim Committees running cricket and I am telling the Minister (Ranasinghe) to immediately set up an Interim Committee,” said Member of Parliament Nalin Bandara.
