Christopher Johns (right), board member of Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition welcomes new Washington Governor Bob Ferguson at a special reception at the Governors Mansion for the Coalition. The Coalition promotes and advocates for state and federal funding for parks, wildlife habitat and working lands across Washington State.

To date, the Coalition has successfully leveraged over $2 billion in state, local, and private dollars through the WWRP grant program for over 1,700+ parks, trails, wildlife habitat, and working lands projects including over 365K acres of land preserved. Christopher was accompanied by wife Sara. Christopher is the son of Padmini and John Johns of La Jolla.

David Weinman of Perth, Australia Celebrates 81st Birthday

David Weinman, celebrated his 81st birthday on January 13th 2025. He attended a pre birthday lunch with his beautiful wife Doreen-Ann and his friends at a restaurant in Perth.

David with his daughter Tamara-Ann. David is an old boy of St Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya, Sri Lanka. He is the son of Major Aubrey Weinman, the first Director of Sri Lanka’s National Zoo in Dehiwela. David has been on the Board of the RSPCA for 10 years and is a life member of the Australian Red Cross. He is well known for his outstanding qualities to make things better for his motherland and also for society as a whole. We wish him long life, good health and happiness

He worked for Prince Mukarram Jah, the eighth Nizam of Hyderabad. For for over 20 years he worked on Prince Jah’s Ranch, as Advisor and General Manager of his many properties in Geneva, India and Australia. Here’s David with Prince Mukarram Jah on his Ranch in Western Australia.

David played a role while filming in Malaysia with William Holden and Dan Abrahams.

Obituaries – Sad News

Lekha (Ariathurai) Wickramasekaran (77) passed away in Santa Barbara, CA on March 5th, 2025. Loving mother of Previn, Neha, Ranjana. Mother-in-law of “favorite son-in-law”, Sean Comer. Cherished grandmother of Caleb, Rakesh, Rani.

Reunited with her beloved husband, Papa (Dr Raj “Wicks” Wickramasekaran), who passed away last year.

Accomplished electrical engineer and computer scientist, successful entrepreneur and business owner, published author of The Ramayana: An Indian Epic, and an excellent cook. A much loved pillar of the community who lifted up so many. Lekha had a brilliant mind and a huge heart. She made deep and lasting connections in an instant. She lit up the room and left a wake of laughter that lasted days.

Celebration of Life service to be planned at a later date.

Varuna Wijekoon – passed away in Colombo. (Formerly at Abans PLC,​ Ex-Thurstanite (‘94)). Son of Claudette and Mahinda Wijekoon (Ex-People’s Bank Intl. Div),​ brother of Gayantha (Cargills Bank) and Mithila (National Bank of Jujairah,​ Dubai),​ brother-in-law of Dilusha and Harshi and uncle of Yenuja and Ramidhi.​ Cremation was on March 6,​ 2025,​ at the General Cemetery,​ Borella.

Recipes From Roma’s Kitchen

Belizean Meat Pie….

Ingredients

Pastry

• 2/4 Cups All purpose Flour
• 1 tspn. Salt
• 1/2 Cup Shortening
• 1 Egg
• 2/3 Cup water

Filling

• 1/2 lb. ground Beef
• 1/2 tspn. salt 1/2 tspn. Black Pepper
• 1/2 tspn. Thyme
• 1/4 cup Onion finely chopped
• 1 clove Garlic, finely chopped
• 1/4 Cup Green Bell Pepper Wocestershire
• 1 Tbs. Ketchup
• 1 1/2 cup Water
• 1 TBS Cornstarch 1 TBS Water
• Habanero (finely chopped optional)

Bake at 375 degreesF for 25 minutes.

This Recipe makes 12 Servings
