LCC MEDIA RELEASE – Liverpool Council recognises its local heroes

LCC MEDIA RELEASE - Liverpool Council recognises its local heroes

Liverpool City Council has proudly honoured the outstanding contributions of its volunteer community as part of National Volunteer Week, Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering.

Liverpool Deputy Mayor Peter Harle said volunteers play a vital role across a wide range of Council programs and services.

“Volunteers are the soul of our community. They bring people together, strengthen our services, and make Liverpool a more connected, caring, and vibrant place to live,” Councillor Harle said.

“Recognition is key. Celebrating the work volunteers do not only thanks them for their service, it inspires others to join them.”

This year’s theme, “Your Year to Volunteer,” encouraged Australians to embrace meaningful involvement in their communities throughout 2026.

Liverpool City Council echoed this message by celebrating the dedication, passion, and impact of its volunteers, who continue to strengthen the city’s social, cultural, and environmental fabric.

“To every volunteer, thank you. Your selfless service lifts us all. Together, we can build a better Liverpool,” Councillor Harle said.

Council volunteers contribute across numerous areas, including:

– Bush regeneration, restoring parks and reserves, planting thousands of native trees, removing invasive weeds, and protecting wildlife habitats.

– Library and Museum Services, supporting children’s reading programs, cataloguing historic collections, assisting at events, and welcoming visitors.

– Community events such as NAIDOC Week, Harmony Day, and the Liverpool Street Festival.

– Environmental education, helping deliver workshops and community clean‑up days.

– Youth and senior programs, supporting social, educational, and wellbeing activities.

– Arts and culture, assisting with gallery openings, exhibitions, and public art projects.

– Multicultural and language support, helping new residents navigate services and feel welcome.

The event also highlighted Council’s commitment to expanding volunteer opportunities over the next three years, with a focus on engaging more residents in meaningful roles that support community connection and wellbeing.
