ROYAL COLLEGE OLD BOYS IN AUSTRALIA ASSOCIATION (RCOBAA)

The Royal College Old Boys Association Australia (RCOBAA), incorporated in Victoria, is the official representative body of Old Royalists in the state and is recognised by the Royal College Union (RCU) in Sri Lanka. Membership is open to former students of Royal College, Colombo, and the Royal Primary School (RPS).

The association traces its roots back to informal gatherings in Melbourne in the late 1970s, where early Royalists—including seniors from the 1920s and 1930s—met socially, often reminiscing about school days in Ceylon. These early gatherings were led by notable Royalist Edward “Eddie” Gray, a former Royal College rugby captain, Olympian, and Inspector General of Police.

In 1980, the group was formally established as the Royal College Old Boys Association in Melbourne under Arthur Kenuman, with Eddie Gray as Secretary, and later evolved into a structured organisation representing all age groups of Old Royalists.

RCOBAA was officially incorporated in 1992 and has since grown into a vibrant community organisation. It continues to promote fellowship among alumni through major annual events such as the dinner dance, Royal–Thomian cricket, Bradby Shield celebrations, and the Stag night. The Annual General Meeting features traditions such as the Eddie Gray Memorial Oration and the “Toast to the Teachers of Royal,” preserving the spirit and heritage of Royal College in Australia.
