Admiral Sirimevan Sarathchandra Ranasinghe (Rtd) assumed duties today (10/03/2024) as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).
He served as the Commander of the Navy from October 2017 to December 2018. Admiral Ranasinghe also served as the Secretary to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Southern Development in 2019.

He is an Anti-Submarine Warfare Specialist, trained at INS Venduruthy, Kochi. He completed his Defence Services Staff Course in Wellington, India, and attended the War Course at the National Defence University (NDU) in Islamabad, Pakistan, as well as the National Defence Course at the National Defence College in New Delhi, India.

Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe was born in Anuradhapura and first joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1982. He underwent basic training at the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee and the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, England (1984–1985).

He holds an MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies (First Class) from the University of Madras (2000), an MSc in War Studies and Defence Management (Second Upper) from the National Defence University, Islamabad, and an MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies (First Class) from the University of Madras (2013).

He is a recipient of the ‘Weera Wickrama Vibhushanaya’, the ‘Rana Wikrama Padakkama’ for gallantry, and the ‘Vishishta Seva Vibhushanaya’ and ‘Uttama Seva Padakkama’ for his unblemished service. He has been commended by the Commander of the Navy for outstanding performance of duty and exceptional contributions to naval service.
