“Ain’t no mountain high enough, Ain’t no valley low enough, Ain’t no river wide enough” was the lyrics of  a famous song by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell about courage and commitment to overcome the unsurmountable.

Esric Jackson is blessed with that rare mindset in his life as a musical icon and one that takes on and overcomes all barriers and obstacles in his path.

But he has now been chartered into unfamiliar territory and surrendered to his biggest fans and the ultimate love of his life, his grand kids.

Two of Esric’s many CD’S  was dedicated to daughter Candice and hubby Toufic’s kids Mischa and Cruz. The first entitled “Kiss an angel good morning ” to Misha followed by “Counry Cruzing”  to Cruz, two popular productions from reviews, which has sparked a question from Candice’s third, Makai and younger daughter Tatum and Richard’s kids, Brooklyn and Zayn,  Pappa, “What about us?”.

Caught in the unanticipated dilemma, and under the pump, Esric, who dotes on his grandkids, has decided to launch what he assures is his ‘final CD’  entitled “Second Generation” to appease his family, and to make it a level playing field. Popular Australian singer John Farnham and a few others did many ‘final’ concerts too, said close friends Audrey and Breno Rosairo.

The popular musican, with a streak of a lovable larrikin, has been the nerve centre of most Sri Lankan musical events in Australia and his love and commitment to produce sell-out events has been well documented over a long period.

Esric has faced challenges on many fronts but has stood steadfast and overcame them all, albeit being subjected to the irreparable loss of the love of his life, wife Sandra, who was sadly taken away in her prime five years ago.

With Sandra, they were unchallenged as a dynamic musical duo. But despite her untimely demise and the ensuing void and his own personal setback fighting cancer thereafter, he returned to pick up the gauntlet and pursue his life’s mission that was gifted to him, music.

Esric and Sandra have over the journey produced many CD’S and DVDS. Some of them dedicated to their family which was at the heart of all they did.

As the family kept growing with daughters Candice and Tatum producing offspring of their own, the focus of Nanna and Pappa expanded to share a wider wingspan.

The result of grandchild observation, has now driven Esric to record another CD to appease not just his kids and grandchildren, but his wide following in the music industry and fans, and it is of absolutely fantastic quality.

Within it is the best of Esric and Sandra combined with the superior expertise of Cameron Colombege, Rob Foenander and Chris Mant providing the ideal format of a production that any music enthusiast must add to their collection. Esric paid special tribute to Tony and Stan Azzopardi, Replay 6 and No Limit for their wonderful musical backing.

All funds generated from the sale of this collector’s dream will go to a worthy charity,  Esric said.

I was offered a sneak peak of the production and I’m convinced it is a, must have, for the quality and content.

The emphasis is heavily leaning on Esric’s love and loss of Sandra,  his love and life of nearly fifty years. Brave in concealing his feelings, the CD clearly underlines a broken heart. But certainly not a broken spirit that is driven by wife Sandra’s wish that he carries on their commitment to family and music.

A never recorded version of Endless Love by Esric and Sandra has been inserted into this gem of a CD offering new material to music lovers.

Esric’s mission is made easy by the fact he would not have it any other way. Actually, the end song encapsulates his inner belief, “I did it my way”.

“CITY OF GEMS” RATNAPURA Ratnapura, known as the “City of Gems” in Sri Lanka, derives its name from the Sanskrit words “ratna” (gemstone) and “pura” (town or city). As the hub of Sri Lanka’s gem mining industry. The name is derived from Sanskrit and Pali, languages that heavily influenced the region over 2000 years ago. The city earned this name because it has been the traditional center of Sri Lanka’s gem trade for over 2,000 years. It is the primary source of world-renowned precious stones, including blue sapphires, rubies, and cat’s eyes. Some historical accounts suggest a different origin linked to the Portuguese colonial era. There is a view that the name could be derived from the Portuguese word “Rapadura,” which refers to jaggery. Ratnapura is the heart of Sri Lanka’s gem industry, often called the “gem capital of the world” due to its incredible geological wealth and ancient trading history. The region is famous for producing over 40 of the 85 known gemstone varieties in the world. The most famous is the “Ceylon Sapphire,” prized for its vivid cornflower and royal blue hues. Other varieties include yellow, pink, and the rare orange-pink Padparadscha. Specialty Stones: Includes the rare Alexandrite (which changes color in different light), Cat’s Eye Chrysoberyl, Spinel, Tourmaline, Garnet, and Moonstone. The sapphire in Princess Diana’s Iconic engagement ring is a Ceylon sapphire from the Ratnapura area. Many world-renowned gems were unearthed in the Ratnapura district. One of the largest faceted blue sapphires ever found in Ratnapura, Blue Giant of the Orient is over 465 carats. The city features remains of a Portuguese-Dutch Fort, which now houses the National Gem and Jewellery Authority. Ratnapura is the starting point for the “classic” hard route (Gilimale route) to the sacred Sripada. Ratnapura district is home to a significant number of spectacular waterfalls, often described as having the highest concentration of waterfalls in Sri Lanka. – By Francis Paul Welangoda
