“GOOD-NEWS-BREAKING” by Des Kelly

Definitely, the best news, for a long long while. I have been around for quite some time, have seen many Presidents of America come & go, had a lot of respect for the last one, in President Obama, surprised, as thousands of others were, at the recent choice of a man best known as a business- man & television personality, who went around “sacking” people, put his hand up, for the Presidency of one of the most powerful Countries on our planet, not even having the wildest dream of his bid being successful, and then, bingo !, the White-house says hello to President Donald Trump.

I feel sure that I am “grasping at straws” here, but I do feel that there has to be a Lankan/American, living now in Washington, who is a “member” of eLanka, & (hopefully), is passing on, what has been some good advice to the new President as regards the much tighter security he now has to take, especially with his own family.

I was watching television, not long after President Trump took office, when it was announced that he was just about to come up on-stage in Washington, somewhere, to give a Presidential speech to a crowd gathered there. No-one would doubt that there would have been “tight security” in place, and then the President came up to the microphone to speak to the people there, but, standing quite close to him, was his youngest son. Immediately, I thought to myself, that it was a foolish thing for him to do. HE wants to speak to his people ?, that was fine, but what was his young son doing there ?. I had hardly answered myself, when a “shot” rang out, security staff rushed over to the President, grabbed him bodily & pulled him out of sight behind the stage curtain. I want my readers to know that I am not making this up. I was LOOKING at it happening.

As I reported what I saw, in an “article” to eLanka, the person who fired the shot was either a very bad marksman or an idiot who just aimed his weapon into the air and pulled the trigger & was immediately grabbed by other security-men who then dragged him out of the building.

I was then amazed when this President resumed his place at the microphone as though nothing had happened & I then thought to myself, this guy might be foolish, but is certainly not a coward. However, I wrote, “Mr.President, you took on this job, where many before you have been assasinated , but do not have your children, where they could be targets for some nut-case, despite all the security. This “nut” could

have easily killed your young son”.

Donald Trump has taken notice of this advice, and even though his children still sometimes accompany their father

to public meetings etc., they now stand well away from him

Still, on “guns”, I have written at least three separate articles on the “Gun-Lobby” in America. In my view, this “Lobby” will always be there. No President, however strong, will be able to close it down altogether, but again, President Trump also sees the possibilities of “controlling” it in various ways.

Arming teachers in all schools, to protect their students may serve it’s purpose, but better still is the plan to restrict the sale of guns only to people over 21 years of age. To this, I would add, the sale of semi-automatic & automatic guns should be scrapped altogether, only to be available to the people in the armed services and/or people who are members of gun-clubs who can produce authorisation in triplicate, a copy each to the gun-shop, the person buying the weapon and the “authoritarian” in question.

Finally, we should all congratulate President Trump. He is the ONLY ONE who is seen to be doing something about this tragic question where so many young lives have already been lost. As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day, the gun lobby is here to stay, BUT, it MUST be CONTROLLED in every POSSIBLE WAY. “If you do, thank you for reading eLanka, Mr.President”. We have to give credit where credit is due.

Since he became President, a Country that was surely on the skids, has rapidly changed for the better, in many ways.

Now, with this gun lobby being controlled, on his watch, parents will have some peace of mind when sending their children to school. Thank you President Trump.
