Today, I’m excited to share a little about one of my favourite holidays in Sri Lanka!
I visited the charming fishing town of Negombo and had a delightful time exploring the local fish market.
Negombo, on Sri Lanka’s west coast, is a peaceful coastal town with adorable white sandy beaches and stretches of turquoise water.
Negombo is a lively, open-air fishing village and bustling market that captures the vibrant spirit of local life. Known as Lellama by the friendly locals, it’s nestled just across the lagoon bridge near the historic Old Dutch Gate.
No matter where you visit in Sri Lanka, Negombo is a must-visit. It is a one-hour drive from Colombo and close to the airport.
It is a noisy, vibrant experience, with a fishy smell.
As you wander through the charming streets, you’ll get a wonderful glimpse into the fishermen’s daily lives and culture.
The area is lined with cosy food courts, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a delicious variety of fresh seafood. And there’s always something exciting to do around Negombo Fishing Village, offering a memorable experience for every visitor.
My escort, Mahinda, who lives in Negombo, happily drove all the way from Kandy to pick me up. Now, here we are together on the lovely sandy beach early in the morning, enjoying the peaceful beginning to the day.
