Mahesha Sandamali hails from Veyangoda, parents are from a typical middle class family father with a bit of a knowledge in music perhaps with some hereditary affiliation, which may have induced Mahesha to love music from her younger days Mahesha had acquainted with music predominately singing after she had been involved in concerts and competitions in Daham Pasel etc. Mahesha had gone to a Montessori in Bemulla then at her schools Initially up to the ordinary levels at the Sri Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya Nittambuwa, and then at the Yashoda Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha from which school she had followed in the arts stream had entered the Kelaniya University at which she had selected subjects connected to music for her degree. After which she has completed her Masters in the same field of music and is a competent music teacher in vocals, theory, and voice training. To Mahesha there had been no pressure from parents to study in a particular stream but had given her the green light to do whatever she preferred and talented for. Mahesha’s ambition in life had been to become a lecturer which she achieved after completing her Masters in music performing arts having taught at the same university for a few years.
It was obviously the famous Derana Dream Star season 07 reality contest in year 2017 that changed the life of Mahesha. TV Derana. sponsored Dream Star first Dream Star season was started in year 2008 The program name itself means “Way to be a star”. While in her Kelaniya university two colleagues had entered had informed her of their auditions. Mahesha had been very disappointed as she had not submitted her application had called the authorities and informed of her keenness to participate. To her request the TV Derana related authorities had invited her for her audition This is how she had entered the competitions sans an initial application. She has had no idea to be a winner, her only focus was to be selected to the next round and sing differently to impress. Finally she was one of the three finalists held in front of a massive audience at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium. The experience was very foreign to her, ,yet the opportunity was fabulous on 9th .December 2017. Mahesha was elected as the second runner up to be behind the winner Sumeera Sumanga and Shalini Kaushalya both male contestants.
The final ten contestants elected are compelled to be resident in the Derana music academy where they are given proper training in many areas of music.Mahesha had in the television dialog added that she had added many valuable aspects to her life during her stay in the Derana music academy. It had been these days that Mahesha had to study for her finals in the university. She reminisces this awkward period how she broke rest to study her tutorials in the university which she had skipped with the assistance of her colleagues in the university of Kelaniya This challenge was somehow steered though with difficulty. This Mahesha had added was a very challenging passage for her. However, Mahesha had navigated over her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Special with a ‘A’ class honours , had been awarded a Gold Medal too. She did not restrain her education but studied further for her Masters in performing arts in music in the same Kelaniya university, after which she was absorbed as a permanent cadre in the Kelaniya university, fulfilling a dream of her, where she taught students for a period of nearly three years. Thereafter she opted to impart her music intelligence to a group of selected students by having a class at her dwelling. She proposes to embark on her own academy for which firm footings have already been laid.

Mahesha has only one sibling a brother seven years younger to her Krishan Karunaratne who is a music fanatic whose life revolves around music only very dedicated. It is he who had given her the required impetus to pursue for her a career in music. One other sibling a younger sister had unfortunately passed away when she was young. Mahesha reminisced her by signing appropriately HR Jothipala song “ Sanda Rani Thanee Wewi Nil Ahase”,a very emotional song which agitated the adjudicators in the Derana Dream Star season 07 along with the vivid audiences too.It need to be reminisced that during her gruelling dream star journey at each round Mahesha had sung songs of Sri Lankan veteran artistes like Nanda Malini , Sujatha Attanayake. She impressed the adjudicators and the audiences by singing a famous Hindi song titled “Mera Dholna Su Mere Pyar” to stamp her class and prowess in singing even in the Hindi vernacular.
Brother Krishan who is a music fanatic who specializes solely in composing and singing Rap songs is already popular artiste known to many had triumphed in Hiru Mega star contest to become a popular vocalist too .Krishan has sung a Rap duet with Mahesha titled “Ape Adare” which has had many views is a well-known hit.The singing styles of Mahesha and brother Krishan are diverse as Mahesha sings ‘classical’ songs. It is learnt that brother Krishan during the entire day making melodies who makes it a routine asks Mahesha particularly as to how the melodies are.For her wedding too the melody of the song was composed by Krishan within a just three days to the lyrics of Yashoda Adhikari. Krishan who considers his mentor is sister Mahesha.This song a duet of the brother and sister duo contains in a music video. The duo has together composed and sung more songs which could be heard shortly.
Mahesha had spoken highly of her husband whose qualities are incomparable is a unique personality who renders his hundred per cent for her musical career is very caring has gifted her with many valuable gifts to boost her singing career He is a resident of Kadawatha is presently working on ship who for a day contact her several times to find out how she is fairing. His fullest support to her musical journey is rendered to tall elevations including his parents and siblings. In this scenario Mahesha had quipped she is very fortunate.
Mahesha has quipped at a television confrontation that she has a few targets in life.One was to possess a PhD in musicology for which she is studying now.She has had an ambition while singing in the Derana Dream Star reality contest to sit on a chair like the adjudicators , which was fulfilled when she was selected by TV Derana authorities to adjudicate in the Little Star Titans reality contest after which she became well recognized by many even when was driving she was identified which is of course a thrill to anyone. Mahesha also had dreamt for an opportunity to sing in a film which too was fulfilled when the .opportunity arose to sing a song in the film “Vishama Baga: directed by Lalith Ratnayake.For this triumph Mahesha had been awarded the best singer award at the Signis awards ceremony, Also she had received an international award from a Venezuela film festival.
Sandamali to date has to her credit many solo and duet songs with her brother mostly completed with gorgeous videos.She also has in addition has sung many Mp3 songs which could be heard and watched on Apple Music, Tick Tok etc.Some of her famous songs are “Me Wage Lanwela” , “Mal Kele”, “Dan Pama Wedida”,” Hithata Thadin Denena”, “ Neel Uthpala”,” Ninede Gambura”,” etc. Mahesha continues her singing career with the assistance of her brother Krishan, hopes to open her own music academy this year.
Mahesha had contributed a theme song for Tv Derana teledrama’s too.Mahesha has dedicated her life totally for singing, her fans would hear a lot more of her songs ,who no doubt would wish Mahesha Sandamali a bright and astounding future for her singing career.
