NSW Government extends Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants deadline

NSW Government extends Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants deadline-eLanka

Friday, 13 December 2024

In response to feedback from communities, the NSW Government has extended the application deadline for the Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants program to 9 January 2025.

This extension reflects the Government’s commitment to supporting the safety and security of places of worship and other places where faith communities gather regularly.

The Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants program, recently bolstered by an additional $5 million in funding, aims to enhance safety and resilience for faith-based groups.

Part of a broader $15 million initiative, the program addresses the evolving security needs of NSW’s diverse religious communities.

Eligible applicants can seek grants ranging from $5,000 to $250,000 for use at faith-based centres, including places of worship, seminaries, religious museums, community centres, retreats, and sites of religious significance.  The funding supports both protective security measures and holistic initiatives that promote community wellbeing and resilience.

Multicultural NSW Chief Executive Joseph La Posta said:

“These grants focus on ensuring faith communities feel safe and supported in their places of worship and gathering.”

“This extended deadline provides more opportunities for faith groups to access critical resources to enhance safety and resilience.”

“By investing in both physical safety and community resilience, we’re reaffirming our commitment to creating an inclusive and secure environment for all faith communities in NSW. These grants are a vital step towards fostering a sense of belonging and peace for everyone.”
