Obituary: Mrs Doreen Abeywardena Warasakoon
To THE DSA ERA GROUP,
It is with deep sadness that we note the passing away of Mrs Doreen Abeywardena Warasakoon on 20th September 2022 in the afternoon. She was very ill and was warded at Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital for over a week. According to her wishers a private funeral was held at Batapola Cemetery, Akuregoda, Battaramulla on the 21st September at 10.30 a.m., until then her mortal remains were at Mahinda Panagoda Funeral Parlour from 8.30 a.m.
Mrs Doreen Abeywardena joined the college staff in 1962 and served STC with dignity and pride for over 35 years. She was the well known Music Teacher in the Lower School and was mainly responsible for organizing the annual Lower school concerts dating back to the era with Mrs June Boralessa. She belongs to the long line of academia legends at college who moulded many Thomians to reach prestigious positions.
She was the youngest sister of the Abeywardana’s Lassie, Monty and the two sisters who all precede her.
It is appreciated that so many doctors and old Thomians rallied around her to make her comfortable and help in many ways to get her proper medical attention.
Our deepest sympathies go out to her husband Mr Senarat Warasakoon and all other bereaved family members.
