Passing away of Edward (Edda) Victor Pereira in Zurich, Switzerland

nee Pereira

To. THE STC DSA ERA GROUP,

It is with sadness we note the passing away of Edward (Edda) Victor Pereira in Zurich, Switzerland.

May he rest in Peace.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Corinne and other bereaved family members and relations.

From: CORINNE KING

This is to inform all those on my email distribution listing of the passing away of my 1st cousin – Edward (Edda) Victor Pereira, son of the late Conrad Lawrence Pereira and Iris Pereira (nee Varney) formerly of Wellawatte, Sri Lanka and for over 60 years a resident in Zurich, Switzerland.  Edward was 88 years of age when he passed away on 27th September in a Zurich Hospital from complications with his heart and kidneys.

Edward was a long distance Marathon Swimmer, swimming from Mount Lavinia to Galle Face Green in rough seas and against many treacherous seas.  He was the Grandson of the late C.V.Pereira (Teacher at  St. Thomas’ College,  Mount having moved with the College in 1918 from Mutwal.  Edward was the nephew of the late D.N.Pereira (my Dad).

There will be many Thomians who will recall when Edward saved the life of a drowning MP – Mr. C.P. de Silva.  A story that was headlines in all the papers at the time.

Edward (Edda) was associated with the Otters Swimming Club, he was a Manager at the following establishments in his working career – Fountain House Cold Storage Company, Elephant House and the Galle Face Hotel prior to his departure from the Island to pursue his further studies in Hospitality in Switzerland which he made his home.

I give below a photo of Edward (Edda) Pereira taken approximately 3 years ago in August 2019.

I have also included a few Thomians in the “Bcc” section and  hope you don’t mind that I have included a few of you as you may have known him at STC.

With kind wishes to you all,

Corinne King (nee Pereira)
