The gentleman under reference needs no introduction whatsoever. However, to the handful of those who aren’t sure who he is, his name is Desmond Kelly, fondly known as “Des”, to those who have had the privilege of knowing him, either on a personal or professional level.
Since the halcyon days of the roaring sixtees, Des has been a constant in the rapidly evolving music industry. The late and Great Showbiz entrepreneur of yesteryear Donovan Andree, who was responsible for having kickstarted the careers of Bill Forbes, Clifford Foenander among a host of others, spotted Des’ talent, giving him the initial break he needed. And the rest as they say, has become a part of history.
Over the years, not only has Des accomplished himself as a vocalist, but he has also showcased his instrumental prowess, as evidenced in the incorporated music video.
This humble and modest artiste, who describes himself as a student of music, has to his credit, hundreds of original classics. Most conspicuous among the numerous hits, has been ‘Dreamworld’, a song which was produced by the incomparable Chris Greet and one which made Chris chuckle, before he crossed the Great Divide. Such was the impact of Des’ signature song, which has spanned decades, without losing its gloss and lustre.
Des has ushered joy into the lives of many, through the curative power of his music. Hence the well-deserved title of ‘Mr Music’.
The manner in which he glides his fingers on the ivories, is both unique and effortless.
With the passing of remorseless time, many wannabe musos have cut their musical teeth under Des’ motivational tutelage.
Always willing to impart his wealth of knowledge and expertise to those in need of his invaluable guidance, it will be no exaggeration to say, that Des has not only been a performer with a flair for creativity, but he has also been a cornerstone of music’s Holy Grail.
