Colombo, Sep. 23 (Daily Mirror) – Sri Lanka Customs is set to officially launch its first paperless customs declaration system on October 1, marking a major step towards the digital transformation of customs procedures and services to the trading community.
The new system will allow customs declarations and supporting documents to be submitted and processed electronically, reducing reliance on physical documents, manual handling and the movement of paper files.
According to Sri Lanka Customs, the system is expected to speed up processing, improve transparency and document traceability, and reduce administrative delays.
It will also facilitate more effective risk-based customs controls, revenue protection, regulatory compliance and trade facilitation, while supporting a more environmentally sustainable working environment.
The launch is expected to further strengthen efforts to establish a more efficient, transparent, secure and technology-driven Customs administration capable of meeting the demands of modern international trade.
Sri Lanka Customs said the successful introduction of the system was made possible through the contribution of its officers and technical teams, government institutions, the trading community, Customs brokers and logistics sector partners.
The new system will be officially launched at the Sri Lanka Customs Auditorium in Colombo on October 1.
