Sri Lanka targets stronger position in global supply chains

Colombo, Sep. 10 (Daily Mirror) – The 8th Colombo International Maritime and Logistics Conference (CIMC 2026) commenced in Colombo on September 9, bringing together local and international stakeholders to discuss Sri Lanka’s potential to strengthen its position as a key regional maritime and logistics hub.
Addressing the inaugural session as the chief guest, Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Anura Karunathilaka said the government is prepared to make greater use of Sri Lanka’s strategic geographical location to strengthen and streamline global supply chains.
A key feature of this year’s conference was the participation of Laura DiBella, Chairman of the US Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), who addressed a South Asian maritime conference for the first time. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of international regulatory frameworks governing maritime transportation.
The opening ceremony was attended by Western Province Governor and Special Presidential Envoy for Foreign Investments Hanif Yusoof, former Speaker Deshabandu Karu Jayasuriya and CIMC Founder Chairman Rohan Masakorala, among other distinguished guests.
Held under the theme “Building a World Around Us,” CIMC 2026 brings together representatives from Sri Lanka and overseas to examine key developments and challenges facing the maritime and logistics industries.
The conference is focusing on improving operational efficiency, adopting new technologies and strengthening Sri Lanka’s maritime capabilities, while exploring opportunities to expand the country’s role in regional and global supply chains.
