Sri Lanka women’s team showed fighting spirit as they recorded a thrilling seven run victory over Australia in their under 19 Tri nation T-20 cricket series fixture played at Mahinda Rajapaksa International cricket Stadium yesterday.

The opening fixture of this tournament Sri Lanka led by Manudi Nanayakkara gave a superb performances to beat Aussie lasses in a close fight . In fact Sri Lanka and Australia both teams made low scores yesterday while Sri Lanka team limited to 117 for 6 wickets in their 20 overs but Sri Lankan lasses very well defended that score and Aussies had to be satisfied with 110 for 5 wickets in 20 overs and Sri Lanka team coached by Mahesh Weerasinghe had a morale booster with this opening game victory

Sri Lanka women’s made a slow start by openers Dewmi Wijeratne (15) and top scorer Sanjana Kavindi and first five overs they had to satisfied with only 18 runs butr Kavindi later made a brisk score of 28 in 27 balls with 4 fours and six made a good display to build up innings while skipper Manudi Nanayakkara (16 in 15 balls with 3 fours )Rashmi Nethanjali 14 in 16 balls with 2 fours and wicket keeper Sumudu Nissansala 19 in 17 balls with 3 fours had valuable knocks to build up the innings . Aussie spinners Hasrat Gill and Eleanor Larosa took two wickets apiece.

Australia chasing their target of 118 couldn’t get good start and struggling at 17 for 3 wickets in 4.4 overs while Rashmika Sewwandi and Rashmi Nethrtanjali made an early breakthrough to put pressure for opponents. However number five batter Eleanor Larosa hit an unbeaten 44 in 41 balls with 5 fours while Skipper Lucy Hamilton scored 28 in 30 balls with 4 fours tried to reach the target but it was in vain as Sri Lanka bowlers did well to restrict them to 110 for 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs and Sri Lanka team ran out winners by seven runs.

Today England will meet Australia in their game at 10a.m while Sri Lanka will meet England tomorrow (30) at 10 am at the same venue.
