Sir Arthur C. Clarke (1917-2008) is the world-famous scientist who made Sri Lanka his home for over 50 of his 90 years. Many persons worldwide inspired deeply by his science and science fiction books, knew of Sri Lanka as the far-distant exotic land where Clarke lived. He is most famous for the 1945 suggestion for global communications with geostationary satellites in what is now called the Clarke Orbit. The 1968 Stanley Kubrick and Arthur Clarke’s Film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ is one of the Greatest Movies of All Time. He passed away 15 years ago on 2008 March 19th and will remain in the memory of all who were fortunate to know him. His enormous contributions to humanity will clearly be cherished forever. He inspired the careers of many Lankan Astronomers.
