He was the son of William Allan Forbes & Myra Pollocks, and was the fourth child in a family of eight boys and a girl.

He was educated at St Peter’s College, Colombo, with the outbreak of WW2 the College was requisitioned  over by the

Royal Navy. The family moved to Moratuwa, so that the boys could continue their schooling at St Sebastian’s College.

Vernon enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corp and saw active service in North Africa and the Middle East. On being

demobbed from the Army in 1946, he joined the Ceylon Government Railway (CGR) as a Guard.

On 12 August 1950, he married Vilma Rudolph. They are the parents of Marie Stainwall (dec), Verville and Vylette Raymond.

In 1968, he took early retirement from the CGR and migrated to Melbourne in 1970, with the family.

He was employed by Australia Post and worked at the Melbourne Exchange for many years. Vernon, Vilma and family

settled in Gladstone Park. 

In 1917 Vernon and Vilma moved to Corpus Christi Aged Care in Clayton.
