Sri Lanka Test Skipper Dimuth Karunaratne says he has requested Sri Lanka Cricket Selectors to reconsider the captaincy of the national test team.

Speaking to the media today, Karunatatne revealed that he had made a request in this regard previously, but had been urged by the Selectors to continue as the skipper.

Stating that he has once again called on the Selectors to reconsider the captaincy following the ongoing Pakistan series, Karunaratne stated that he is willing to focus on performing as a batsman for the remainder of his playing years.

“There are some players who are more suitable for the captaincy. I personally have seen some players who have grown and are capable of taking on this responsibility,” he said.

Pointing out that Sri Lanka next plays a test in February 2024, Karunaratne stated that the Selectors have ample time to groom a new captain.

“If the Selectors agree on appointing a new skipper, I will willingly hand over the captaincy to the selected player and focus on performing my tasks as a batsman for the team,” he added.

Dimuth Karunaratne made the remarks while speaking to the media following the defeat in the first test against Pakistan today.
