“Christmas time in Sri Lanka is a magical and sensational affair.” – By Harold Gunatillake

Christmas is a highly anticipated festival in Sri Lanka, celebrated on December 25th. Preparations begin weeks in advance, and it has become one of the most celebrated festivals in the country.

On Boxing Day, I had the opportunity to stroll around Galle Face Green. It was a bustling place with many families enjoying the holiday and snacking on local foods. The evening had a tremendous post-Christmas vibe to it.

Here are some captures at the site.

After the boxing day on the 27th of December, we visited the City Centre Mall on James Pieris Mawatha, Colombo.

Are you in the mood for some shopping? Perhaps you want to take advantage of the sales or do window shopping? Either way, Colombo City Centre is the perfect

place to go for the ultimate shopping experience in Colombo.

Shopping can be stressful, with many concerns, such as finding the best prices, unique items, branded products, and a local mall with everything you need.

Fortunately, Colombo City Centre has addressed all of these concerns and more. It is the one-stop shop for all your shopping needs, offering a unique and unforgettable experience to locals and foreign travellers. You can buy European, local, and luxury brands under one roof, making CCC your dream shopping mall.

After a hectic day in Colombo, on the 26th boxing day, spending time at the City Centre Mall and strolling on Galle Face Green joining the festivities, the next day, on December 27th, we visited Nuwara Eliya after spending the night at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo.

So, on the 27th, we embarked on a 6-hour journey to Nuwara Eliya via the Colombo- Hatton road. It was exhausting, but we finally made it to the Oak Ray Summer Hill Breeze Hotel where we spent the night. The hotel was quite comfortable and had a 3-star rating. The service was courteous, and we enjoyed a good breakfast that mainly featured Indian cuisine.

During the day, we visited the Grand Hotel, Nuwara Eliya.

For lunch, we visited the Grand Indian Restaurant around one o’clock. However, the place was fully booked, and we had to wait an hour to get a table. This hotel is in the same vicinity on the driveway to the Grand Hotel.

We got back to Kandy the same evening.

.On New Year’s Eve, Kandy was relatively subdued compared to the bustling celebrations in Colombo. However, the Senani Restaurant, located on the hills overlooking Kandy Lake, was a popular destination for tourists. The restaurant was filled with people enjoying a diverse range of cuisine while watching men, women, and children dance. At midnight, the Senani Hotel hosted a spectacular fireworks display, and everyone wished each other a Happy New Year. The festivities concluded around 2 am.
