Sianna Ginger, of Sri Lankan heritage, named in Australia A squad for England A Women’s series

Sianna Ginger Selected for Australia A Squad for England A Women's Series

The 19-year-old cricket prodigy from Townsville, Queensland, and daughter of Sri Lankan parents, has been selected for the upcoming series. Ginger, who played for Brisbane Heat in WBBL|10, will represent Australia A.

Ginger’s talent was evident from a young age, often competing against boys in junior cricket in North Queensland.

Thirty of Australia’s top domestic female players will be given the chance to impress national selectors, with the squads for a three-day Green v Gold match and a multi-format Australia A series against England A confirmed.

Players selected in the Green v Gold match will face off at Phillip Oval in Canberra from March 12-14, with the fixture giving them the chance to hone their skills in the longer format.

Recently named Australian squad member, Nicole Faltum will continue to expand her leadership credentials as captain of the Green team, while Queensland’s Charli Knott, fresh off an appearance in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) Final, will lead the Gold side.

WNCL Player of the Tournament, Tahlia Wilson and Player of the Final, Anika Learoyd headline the Australia A squads which feature four players with international experience.

Nationally contracted all-rounder, Heather Graham will take charge of the Australia A T20 side, with Faltum and Knott to share the duties across the 50-over and four-day squads.

Sianna Ginger Selected for Australia A Squad for England A Women's Series

National Selector, Shawn Flegler said:

“These series make up a crucial part of the elite player pathway, providing some our best and most promising domestic players with additional development opportunities and the chance to show selectors what they can do against strong international opposition.

“The National Selection Panel is always looking to the future as we’ve seen in recent years with Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield transitioning into the Australian team with great success, so this is a great opportunity to get a look at a wide range of players.

“We’ve included some fresh faces across the squads and are excited to see the likes of Grace Dignam, Elsa Hunter, Gabby Sutcliffe, Sianna Ginger and Rhys McKenna in action.

“With a one-day world Cup in India this year and a T20 World Cup next year, the ‘A’ series in particular, will allow us to have a good look at players we think could push for selection.

“It’s been particularly pleasing to be able to include Rachel Trenaman and Lauren Cheatle, both have showed great resilience over several years to overcome a run of injuries and their selection is a testament to the hard work they’ve put in.”
