To Inspire Travelers and highlight Sri Lanka’s Beauty – Dr Harold Gunatillake

Whispers of the Highlands On the misty peaks of Sri Lanka

In the hush of dawn, the mountains rise,
Veiled in silver mist beneath amber skies.
Tea leaves glisten with morning dew,
As sunbeams pierce the clouds and break through.
The hills hum softly, ancient and wise,
Guardians of secrets, where silence lies.
Cascading streams in rhythmic grace,
Trace the contours of time’s embrace.

Here, the soul finds gentle release – In the highland’s breath, there lives peace.

Golden Shores, Eternal Light On the beaches that kiss the Indian Ocean

The ocean sings to the golden sand,
A lullaby shaped by nature’s hand.
Palms sway gently in salted breeze,
Dancing to rhythms older than the seas.
Sunset spills like molten gold,
On shores where stories are quietly told.
Fishermen cast their nets with care,
As twilight paints the evening air.
No place on Earth holds such delight—
Where day meets dream in fading light.

Island Heartbeat On the vibrant spirit of the land and its people

From jungle depths to coral reefs,
Sri Lanka pulses with quiet belief.
A tapestry woven in spice and song,
Where every heartbeat feels like home.
The smile of a child, the temple bell,
The scent of cinnamon, stories to tell.
Elephants roam in sacred grace,
In this enchanted, timeless place.
The island breathes with gentle pride—
A spirit no storm could ever hide.

Serendip’s Embrace

A tribute to the island’s ancient name and timeless allure
They called her Serendip, the isle of chance,
Where fate and wonder meet in dance.
From Sigiriya’s throne to Adam’s Peak,
Her silent stones have much to speak.
Lotus blooms in temple ponds,
Echoing chants in sacred bonds.
Time bends softly in her gaze,
A land untouched by hurried days.
To walk her paths is to be blessed—
In Serendip’s arms, the soul finds rest.

Sri Lanka: The Timeless Pearl of the Indian Ocean

A Journey Through Paradise Sri Lanka, often called the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean,” has been captivating travellers for hundreds of years. From the ships of ancient sailors to today’s explorers looking for peace, adventure, and new experiences, its charm never fades. Today, Sri Lanka is celebrated as one of the top holiday destinations in the world, inviting visitors with its stunning scenery, lively culture, and heartfelt hospitality.

The Island’s Timeless Appeal
Nestled just off the southern tip of India, Sri Lanka boasts a rich history that spans thousands of years. Ancient stories, like those in the Mahavamsa, share tales of kings, kingdoms, epic battles, and spiritual awakenings that add to its charm. The island’s unique location on important maritime trade routes welcomed traders and explorers from Arabia, China, Europe, and beyond, each contributing to Sri Lanka’s vibrant culture. But what truly captures the imagination is the island’s natural beauty. Surrounded by golden beaches and lush palm groves, the coastline gently encircles a heartland filled with dense rainforests, sprawling tea plantations, and misty highlands. The variety of Sri Lanka’s landscapes is matched only by the wide array of experiences waiting to be discovered..

Historical Marvels and Ancient Cities

Beneath the surface of modern Sri Lanka, you’ll discover the lingering remnants of ancient civilisations. Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are vast archaeological treasures that invite exploration. In these historic cities, towering dagobas and beautifully carved stone temples emerge from the lush jungle, standing as quiet guardians of centuries filled with devotion and craftsmanship. The Sigiriya Rock Fortress, an impressive palace sitting atop a granite monolith, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding plains and is celebrated as one of the world’s most remarkable archaeological sites.

Kandy, the heart of the island’s culture, delights visitors with its serene lake, vibrant botanical gardens, and the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic—a revered pilgrimage destination for Buddhists worldwide. The colourful Esala Perahera parade, featuring lively dancers, dynamic drummers, and grandly decorated elephants, vividly brings Sri Lanka’s rich history and traditions to life.

The Promise of Tomorrow

In a world that often rushes by, Sri Lanka invites you to slow down, savour, and connect with nature, history, and yourself. Its timeless beauty, rich heritage, and spirit of welcome ensure that every visit lingers long in the heart. From the echoes of ancient kingdoms to the rhythm of the rolling surf, Sri Lanka truly is the pearl of the Indian Ocean—a destination unlike any other, and indeed, the best holiday resort on the planet.
