STRENGTHENING THE PRIDE OF CEYLON TEA
A major milestone for our nation’s iconic tea industry! The Government is launching the ‘Ceylon Tea Village’ programme to establish 500 cluster tea villages nationwide.
The official launch is this Wednesday, July 15, at Halgolla Hapugasthalawa, Kotmale. Led by Minister Samantha Vidyaratne, this initiative supports smallholder growers who contribute 75% of our production. The first phase includes 144 villages across 11 districts, targeting $2.5 billion in export earnings and 400 million kg in annual production by 2030.
With 95% of Sri Lankan tea exported, this programme secures the heritage of Ceylon Tea for the global community. eLanka is proud to share this progress and celebrate our community’s growth.
