International Conference organised by the Department of Agriculture, Sri Lanka-by Harold Gunatillake


The 2026 AFACI Project Evaluation Workshop was held at the Ivory Lounge, Oak Ray Regency Hotel, Getambe, Peradeniya, Kandy, from August 11-13, 2026.
This significant regional event is collaboratively organized with the Sri Lanka Department of Agriculture, headquartered in close proximity in Peradeniya, to assess and appraise the advancement of ongoing multinational agricultural initiatives. These initiatives concentrate on essential development sectors including climate-resilient rice breeding, electronic extension networks (AFACI-RATES), and integrated pest management systems across member nations.
- Participating Countries-
- The workshop convenes delegation leaders, researchers, and representatives from agriculture ministries across the AFACI member network, including:
- South Asia: Sri Lanka (Host), Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Pakistan.
- Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
- Central & East Asia: Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and the Republic of Korea.
- In total, forty-five members
Following each morning session, participants were offered a sumptuous buffet lunch at the hotel restaurant, which overlooks the Mahaveli River.
Oak Ray Regency Getambe, Kandy, Sri Lanka, offers seven function halls suitable for conferences, weddings, and various celebrations. It is regarded as one of the premier hotels in Kandy for organising such events.
