Vale Rex Ludewyke-by Lawrence Machado
It is with great sadness that we inform our Peterite community of the passing of Rex Ludewyke, one of our senior and highly respected Melbourne OBSC members.
Rex first attended St. Peter’s College during the Second World War in the 1940s, when the College was temporarily located next to St. Mary’s College, Dehiwala.
A cricket enthusiast throughout his life, Rex began his cricketing career as a Junior Under-14 player under the guidance of Cyril Ekanayake, before progressing to the Under-16 team under Herbert Wittahatchy.
He later represented the First XI under Harold Wittahatchy, taking over the wicket-keeping position from Dr. H.I.K. Fernando, our oldest living cricket captain. During his First XI career, Rex also played alongside the legendary Clive Inman.
Rex was a proud Peterite and a much-loved member of our Melbourne Peterite community. His lifelong passion for cricket and his deep connection with St. Peter’s College will be fondly remembered.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Barbara and the entire Ludewyke family at this very sad time.
May his soul Rest in Peace.
