Yevin Linuk Samararatne was born on 24th February 2004 to parents Indika and Kanushka Samararatne a former student at Musaeus College both natives of Mt Lavinia Sri Lanka migrated to Brisbane in year 2005 when Yevin was still a toddler has one younger sibling Tiyara born in year 2006 , now a medical student also a golf prodigy had given up golf to concentrate on her university education. Indika an old boy of DS Senanayake College a sportsman himself having participated in many sports including representing DS in Rugby possess a diploma in Textile Technology from the RMIT university in Melbourne presently is the Purchasing and Warehouse Manager of a huge cake manufacturing company ‘Euro Natural Fine Foods in Brisbane
A golf prodigy as Yevin is someone who had shown incomparable talent and enormous skill which could be hereditary or not from a relatively young age of four or five years ,It was observed by Yevin’s Dad Indika that he had possessed this natural swing with the cricket bat which had prompted him to communicate with a golf coach in a golf club in the vicinity close to their dwelling who had foretold Yevin to have the innate skill in abundance which was detected at his tender age of five from where the enthusiasm of Yevin and Dad Indika had grown to tall boosts until today when Yevin is twenty two years old, who never misses training at his Mount Warren Park golf club daily at least for a couple of hours while following the PGA membership Pathway program now in the third year studies for a Diploma of Golf Business and Management also while performing shift duty as receptionist in the ‘Pro Shop’ of the Mount Warren Park Golf Club.Yevin had risen quickly through the ranks from many amateur tournaments.. Yevin Samararatne was born in Sri Lanka in 2004 and moved to Brisbane, Australia, with his parents in 2005. Since he was 4-years-old, he loved watching Golf on TV.
He, simultaneously, displayed a natural swing of the bat while playing cricket from a very young age. This signified an innate talent within him. He was gifted with his very first Golf ‘club’ when he was just 6-years-old. When Yevin turned 7, he started at Logan Golf Range, having joined Mount Warren Park Golf Club as well as River Lakes Golf Club, under the guidance and watchful eyes of coaches Jared Love and Zoe Nelson.
While showing natural talent and technique of the Golf swing at such a young age, the coach had encouraged Yevin to start participating in 9-hole competitions, even though the rest of the competitors were very much older to him.
Since 2012, Yevin has participated in several competitions around Queensland and won several awards in tournaments at various clubs including Pacific Golf Club, Virginia Golf Course, Bargara Golf Club, Mt Warren Park Golf Club, River Lakes Golf Club, Sandy Gallop Golf Club, Bribie Island Golf Club, Wantima Golf Club and Walston Golf Club, Oxley Golf Club, Corinda Pitch & Putt.
He was awarded the “Encouragement Award” at the Greg Norman Foundation (South East Queensland) Awards Ceremony 2012, “Player of the Year” for 2012, at River Lakes Golf Club and “Spirit of Golf for 2012”, at Mt Warren Park Golf Club.
In 2013, Yevin was awarded “Player of the Year” for 2013 at Greg Norman Foundation (South East Queensland) Awards Ceremony, as well as the “9 Hole Challenge Gross Winner” Award for 2013. He was also awarded the “Most Improved 9 Hole Player” for 2013, at Mt Warren Park Golf Club.
His progression since he was 8-years-old has been commended by his coaches for his exceptional talent and wonderful temperament. Yevin has received many accolades for his mannerisms, politeness and for the way he presents himself on and off the Golf course, even in the company of adults.
He has been praised by his coaches for his attitude while playing, as it has been noticed that his body language does not change even while losing, as he keeps smiling, which is the hallmark of a true sportsman.
In addition, he has been acclaimed by many over his skills in Golf, his integrity, morals and etiquette. On the advice of his coaches, Yevin, having shown maturity, started to play in 18 ‘Hole’ Golf courses for his club Mt Warren Golf Club, in latter half of 2014.
He immediately showed his prowess, when he won the 1st monthly medal at his club.
He was selected to participate at the South Coast Schools Golf Championships organised by School Sport Queensland in 2014.
In the same year Yevin was the Under-14 Nett winner at Bargara Golf Club.
Yevin won the ‘C’ Grade club championship at Mt Warren Park Golf Club with 120 players from young to senior members participated.
Incidentally, he was the youngest among those who participated in this competition.
He was the recipient of the “Best Handicap Reduction” award at the Greg Norman Foundation awards ceremony held in December 2014.
He was a member of the victorious Junior Pennants team at Mt Warren Golf Club, a member of the Golf Queensland Sub Junior team 2015, participated in Golf Queensland Fayde Points Challenge competition and came second in Gross and Nett in 2015, participated in School Championships at Cairns, and was placed 3rd overall for Queensland in 2015, participated in National Championships in New Castle in 2015, best score and overall Nett winner at Wynnum Junior classic 2015, participated in Greg Norman Junior Masters, participated in Adam Scott Junior open and was 2nd overall for 13 and under, selected to play Invincible Match Play at Perigian Spring Golf Club, participating in several tournaments in NSW to Bundaberg (Ballina Golf Club, Ocean Shores Golf Club, most of the Gold Coast junior opens and Sunshine coast Junior Open), selected to play Junior Masters in 2016, winning Under-13 categories at Caboolture, participated in QLD Boys and Girls Amateur Championships at Bargara June 2016, participated in school championships at Yapoon, was 3rd overall and selected to play at Murray Bridge in South Australia, scored 72 at Pacific Junior Classic 2017, while scoring 1 under 70 at Mount Warren Park Golf Club 2017.
His best achievement to date was when he was adjudged Nett Runner-up among 70 school golfers in the Junior Queensland Sport 10-19 Years Golf Championships 2017, held at Toowoomba from July 23-26, which is an annual event since 1978.
Yevin, still 13-years-old, had to compete with 19-year-old senior players, was really a remarkable achievement.
In the above context, Yevin is on course to be a mature Golf player and bring laurels to his motherland Sri Lanka, which he adores.
He is a Grade 8 student at Shailer Part State High School, whose ambition is to become an Engineer.

Fourteen-year-old Yevin Samararatne from Shailer park state High school was born in Sri Lanka, migrated with his parents in year 2005 has been nominated to take and carry the Queens Relay baton at 10.45.a.m Queensland time from Beenleigh.
The live telecast of the event was on Channel 7.
Now a young golfer, Yevin has grown in leaps and bounds in the past few years. Today, amateur-turned-professionals and caddie-turned-pros are making their mark at the international level. The 14-year-old has emerged winner at many state and national golf championships in Australia.
“We were living close to the Logan Golf Range. It was a common sight to see players indulge in practices on the course while we were passing by. One day we dropped in at the course with my plastic golf clubs. A coach came up to me and my family after he had observed my swing and told us that I possess a great swing. This prompted me to pursue golf as a career,” Yevin recalls.
Yevin has also been qualified to be selected for the Greg Norman Junior Masters at the Palmer Colonial and Palmer Gold Coast Golf Clubs. He was recently named the Queensland School Boys Captain at the National All Schools Championship which was held at Murray Bridge, South Australia from December 8 to 10 2017.Yevin has since participated in a number of golf tournaments from January 2018 to date which all Sri Lankans should be proud of,

Teenage siblings Yevin and Tiyara Samararatna of Sri Lankan origin with innate talent are already versatile golf prodigies ‘Down Under’ having triumphed in many local competitions in Brisbane and other state golf tournaments in boys/girls categories. Tiyara has prolifically shadowed elder brother Yevin, just turned seventeen years.
Both were advised by coaches to commence participating in 18 hole competitions at relatively young ages. For all young golfers, the motivation is to lower their best scores. However, no golfer is ever satisfied 100% with his or her game even when they shoot a great score.This is how siblings Yevin and Tiyara have developed golf skills.
The success of an exceptional golfer is not measured alone by hoisting a trophy. For many it is not to just play the game on a regular basis but to be consistent in it via a list of traits like extensive practice with a routine, patience, taking lessons from avid professionals. Yevin and Tiyara with hours of practices on the ranges at their golf clubs, Mount Warren Park and River Lakes Golf clubs, training on approach shots close to the holes and hole putts possessed by accomplished young golf players.
The siblings had participated in many competitions across Brisbane and also in other states. Yevin had begun to triumph from year 2011 while sister Tiyara from year 2014. Between them have triumphed in many tournaments, have won around 150 trophies and medals. Some of the triumphs were at Pacific Golf Club, Virginia Golf Course, Bargara Golf Club, Mt. Warren Park Golf Club, River Lakes Golf Club, Sandy Gallop Golf Club, Bribie Island Golf Club, Wantima Golf Club and Walston Golf Club, Oxley Golf Club, Corinda Pitch and Putt etc.
In addition they have been adjudicated for ‘encouragement’, ‘player of the year’,’ spirit of golf , ‘most improved player’ awards. The siblings have been acclaimed by many over the skills,their integrity, morale ,sportsmanship and etiquette. The biggest victory for Yevin was when he won the International Junior Golf Classic in NSW when around 100 young golfers from all states participated.
The success of the duo should be attributed to the encouragement and sacrifices parents Indika and Kanushka have made. Golf is a very expensive sport need to possess ideal combinations of clubs, shafts, grips, balls, buggy, shoes and attires. The parents have provided the duo with an artificial golf putting area at the rear of the dwelling also with an equipped gym.
It is relevant to quote that the siblings’ duo are ‘Dux’ Award winners at the school, brilliant in studies also school captains, who wish to continue golf balancing with academic career.

Yevin is entering the final year of his PGA Membership Pathway Program, combining his studies in management with a clear ambition to build a career as a professional golfer.Yevin need to play in many golf tournaments in Brisbane and in other states each week ,as a vital trail for his Pathway Program he is constantly required to attend to assignments which comprises a major theory part in his three year course.Now Yevin is in his third and final year of the program,has steadily established himself as a competitive player within the PGA Pathway. He has already recorded three victories in the program’s Monday matches, demonstrating both his consistency and ability to perform under competitive situations.
His recent form has provided further encouragement as he looks towards the next stage of his career. Yevin finished inside the top seven at the Wickham Freight Lines Warwick PGA Associate Pro Am and followed that performance with a top-10 finish at the Adidas Beaudesert Pro Am. These results have given him confidence that his game is progressing in the precise direction as he prepares to take the next step in professional golf.
While his focus is firmly on golf,Yevin is also completing a degree in management, giving him a broader foundation as he develops his professional career. The combination of academic study and competitive golf has required discipline, time management and a commitment to constant improvement in development.Looking ahead, Yevin’s ultimate goal is to establish himself as a touring professional, with aspirations of competing on the PGA Tour of Indonesia (PGTI) and the Australasian Tour. For him, the Membership Pathway has been more than simply a qualification as it has provided valuable exposure to tournament golf, professional environments and the demands of pursuing a career in the sport.
With his final year now underway, Yevin is approaching an important stage in his development. His recent results, combined with his previous wins in the pathway program, suggest a player who is beginning to build a robust momentum.
