Sri Lanka selectors make calculated risk on an improving squad much in line for their unorthodox game plan - BY TREVINE RODRIGO IN MELBOURNE (Elanka Sports Editor) - eLanka

Trevine Rodrigo | elankaSri Lanka Cricket have awoken to the possibility of its worst World Cup campaign and have desperately rushed in Angelo Matthews and Dushmantha Chameera as replacements if there is injury,  more to save face as the cellar looms large in this edition.

Lack of experience and hamstrung in the bowling department, Sri Lanka have copped a shallacking by opposition batters while their bowlers have been treated with disdain by the three teams they have played against so far.

Matthews has a clever cricketing brain and Chameera is the number one choice in their bowling,  the latter suffering from injury that ruled him out of this World Cup.

While Sri Lanka sits at the bottom of the league stage, below Afghanistan and the Netherlands, their embarrassing predicament has not got much better with injuries to Skipper Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana.

Some wise heads at this stage may just give them some salvation and face saving pride. They are definitely not the team that arrived with the far fetched expectation of winning the World Cup.

From a personal perspective, Matthews gets a deserved swansong if there is a need to replace someone. Chameera on the other hand will enhance a bowling attack that has been  ineffective.

Afghanistan with no structure, and the Netherlands, have thrown up serious questions as to where Sri Lanka Cricket is at.

There has to be some serious repercussions after this World Cup beginning from its administration.
