The Premier of NSW, Chris Minns, will mingle with hundreds of children of many different backgrounds when he opens the annual Canterbury-Bankstown Children’s Festival on Sunday 27th of October.

Two weeks ago, the Federal Minister for Education, Jason Clare, described the Children’s Festival in New South Wales as “an important antidote to racism.”

The Minister told the audience at a fund-raising dinner for the festival: “Racism is something that is learned and it’s something we can all ensure doesn’t happen to our children. So, the Children’s Festival is an important antidote to racism.”

The festival will feature a full programme of performances by talented children of many backgrounds showing off their culture in dance and song as well as many free activities including parachute games, photo booth, tug-of-war, sack race, kite making and flying, jumping castle, Scouting games and rock climbing, etc.

There will also be community information stalls, cultural display stalls, food stalls and food trucks as well as the poster and writing competitions with the theme “My dream of Multicultural Australia.”

The Premier will greet the participants in the costume parade featuring the cultural dress of dozens of communities living in Sydney who will then join him onstage for the performance of the national anthem.

The founding president of the Children’s Festival, Thuat Nguyen AM, said today: “We are delighted that the Premier will join us for the first time to help us celebrate our twenty-sixth annual festival in Bankstown.

Speaking at the recent fundraising dinner, he said:

“We have been working together to help build harmony and social cohesion in our multicultural Australia. We have worked together to successfully stage 40 Children’s Festivals across Sydney, attracting over a quarter of a million people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

“Together, we are making a difference. And together, we are building a better world now and an even better future for the younger generations,” he said.

The festival will be staged at Playford Park, Cahors Road, Padstow, close to the Railway Station, from 11am to 5pm. Entry is free.
