Most songs accompanied with related videos sung by Dimithri consists of his own unusual lyrics the types of which have not been heard in songs in the annals of archives in Sri Lanka. Many songs have gone viral in social media with millions of views. In all in his songs, the lyrics contain words unheard in songs sung previously. He is renowned as a ‘dial’ who sings songs boldly with obscure words not used by counterpart lyricists hitherto. According to Dimithri it is often difficult to maintain that popularity, but he endeavours to sustain it with diverse comparable lyrics in all his repertoire of songs. However, Dimitri argues and defends that all such so called obscure words are not his as they had arisen and emerged from the usage in ancient civilisation and philosophy.
Dimithri hails from a Kandyan based family consisting of a younger brother Niroth seven years younger a Kingswoodian and parental duo, father was a native of Udugama Galle an automobile engineer by profession while mother a voracious bookworm was from Peradeniya .Father had often worked overseas used to return to Sri Lanka at regular intermissions Dimithri had studied at DS Senanayake College ,Colombo 8,.his father too had been an old boy in the same school, had dwelled with his grand mother and grandfather the former had been a retired teacher in the same school DS Senanayake College while the latter grandfather had owned the reputed Woodlands Ice Cream company in Wellawatta, the duo had brought up Dimithri in a very stringent manner. She had taught Victor Ratnayake’s two sons too, had lived in the same vicinity of Gunadasa Kapuge’s dwelling. When young the parental duo had been mostly overseas. Dimithri while schooling he had travelled in a van transporting school children. The first curiosity for music had begun was when listening to the van radio when he had overheard the ‘Ananthayata Para Dige’ sung by Kasun Kalhara, which dumbfounded him taking him by storm to love music, this song Dimithri said had become like an anthem to him and his music crazy colleagues with a vast feel.. He had been dearly loved by the grandparents though with stringent discipline who had even addressed as Amma and Thaththa like calling his own parents similarly .Dimithri has had music within him, reminisces like many music loving students had sung songs in class by beating on the desk. The two colleagues beside Dimithri recollects were Suneth and Madura both bright students. The former had almost topped islandwide in Mathematics both are now engineers having triumphed in academic studies possessing PhD’s.. Dimithri had studied music in school as a subject under Lal Sir had been in the school choir as a violinist too as the only exponent by left hand as opposed to all right hand players from grade four.,As it looked pretty awkward, he had been forced to leave the school choir orchestra while in the seventh standard. Dimithri recalls participating in singing in All island schools’ music competitions having emerged as runner up.
Dimithri though adored to pursue a career in music the parents as well as the grandparents had been totally against his fervent wish , who wanted to emulate his father who was a qualified automobile engineer so to be an engineer had even bought a new car and a furnished new house for him to live comfortably but when he turned to music he was deprived of these facilities.. Dimithri confirmed in a television program that his grandparents pursued him to unprecedented tall elevations for him to become like his father. Dimithri recalls that his father too could sing has had intentions of becoming a singer of repute but had been futile in his endeavour had stimulated Dimithri saying he possessed aptitude in sufficient proportions. Dimithri recalls at home functions it had been his father who led the singing session playing the organ singing his favourite song ‘Liyathambara’ which undeniably proves Dimithri has had hereditary affiliations to music. Dimithri recollects that it was his father who had taught him the specific notes in the organ., the C major F major , G major learnt when he was just five years old which Dimithri reminisces applying these three codes even to date in his music endeavours which are quite adequate to back his own singing. His father had been born rich had owned a number of houses in addition been the owner of “Susaranga Record Bar next to Saranga Record Bar in Maharagama.
Dimithri had followed western music , listened to songs of Milton Mallawarachchi,Victor Ratnayake, HR Jothipala. As his mother loved songs of Nanda Malini Dimithri had become familiar with most our Sinhala songs in particular the song ‘Araliya Landata’ which he trusts was the first computer generated song in Sri Lanka, thereafter the song ‘Apple Malak’ when he was in the seventh standard he reminisced. Early morning when ‘Uda Gee’ was on air in the ‘Swadeshiya’; channel his Archchi had played the music loud close to his ear enhancing him to get up to go to school .Dimithri for the love of songs induced that he kept an empty cassette ready to record when such songs were transmitted. He recalls he listens the songs in the recorded cassette piece while studying too.
When in the higher class a colleague had brought to school IT room two recorded songs that had leaked v i.z ‘Ninda Noyena’., ’Paana Senehasa’ of Iraj Weeraratne were recalled by Dimithri which ‘astonished’ him in the early decade or 2000 as he had never heard such songs made to such precision but however also had heard songs of Bathiya and Santhush when they returned from Kazakhstan after triumphing in a concert. It was at that moment Dimithri had taken to heart how this final song emerged , how could this had happened having arisen a huge curiosity had started to make inquiries had assumed that with our voices too this type of songs could be sung impressively to be accepted by audiences by forgetting the western type of songs he loved. These two songs had instigated Dimithri to sing in comparable manner which he still expresses to all colleagues and media about this..Dimithri had commenced to search Iraj and found there had been a ‘click’ like Wasantha Dukgannarala with Ranga Dissanayake doing the mixing stuff. It was thereafter that Dimithri had gone searching for Ranga. he had disclosed in a you tube dialog , incidentally Dimithri had learnt sound engineering from Ranga Dassanayake which had immensely facilitated him to be in this position as a sound engineer owing his fully equipped own studio.
In year 2008 Dimithri successfully completed his ‘A ‘ Levels with many distinctions though it was a misfortune he only obtained a credit pass for music perhaps as it involved mainly theory… During the early 2000 era there had been no proper ‘internet’ and scarcer availability of software. However, Dimithra has had a friend who possessed innate flair competent in installing electrical equipment who had been gifted to make an ‘Amp’ to hear songs through which helped Dimithri in his future music vocation using FL studio six. Along with immense assistance rendered to him by friend Madura he studied the music subject further. .In year 2007 commenced his music career putting out his first song when he was termed a ‘controversial’ singer. Though many make drastic comments on his lyrics he is not bothered as he says he only listens to advise of three close friends.
After leaving school Dimithri was very keen to learn music in detail had learnt a lot from his friend Pasan Liyanage who is very good at mixing and mastering possessing his own studio where many recordings were made by him and taught him, when he requested Pasan to teach him the finer points he suggested to attend Ranga Dissanayake’s HIT Factory as a student. On visiting Ranga Dimithru had been welcomed with a smile. He had completed initial REP and then having received City and Guilds qualification had completed it too,
In year 2014 the factual debut song was released ‘Rap Baila’ –(Natanna Natanna) but not accepted by the masses only a handful but it had kickstarted his musical journey. The song ‘Kulaganak sung was written by Wasantha Dukgannarala whicg Dimithri recollects the only song he had got written by a lyricist free seen the music fewer he possessed.Dmithri had added a small rap part which was hailed by Dukgannarala which inspired Dimithri to write songs particularly as there is no institution who can assist in the lyric writing.
Dimithri had struggled for fifteen years for a self-study touching psychology too to find a formula to make a song a hit, at times he had felt exhausted. In any person within there is a conscious and sub conscious mind also mechanical sense and natural sense. Ninety percent of all deeds of human behaviour occurs with natural sense as all follow from the time one gets up while twenty percent of our behaviour are otherwise.
.To make a song a ‘hit’ is to embed the song into the listener’s mind. What is needed to make a song to plant into the listener’s attention of mind . The formula is that there should be repetition which need not be boring should break or change. This repetition of music parts was heard in many hit songs of Milton Mallawarchchi and HR Jothipala. Also the chorus was sung three times. The lyrics should contain mostly simple words. Dimithri’s research was made it to a thesis containing a number six parts the first was published in a book released recently titled ‘Human Engine’ on human patterns available in E book stalls. This search was extensive according to Dimithri is found in ‘Abhidharma’ book too.. Dimithri is a multifaceted artistic brilliant individual having many qualifications like Founder & Creative Strategist Dimi3 Music Productions, Marketing and Business Management at Chartered Institute of Management in year 2015, Diploma & Highter Diploma in Business Management in Course work 2016,Certicficate in technical Production certificate in Sound Engineering & Music Technology (City & Guilds),Diploma in Recording Engineering & Music Technology ( City & Guilds),Diploma in Recording Engineering& Production( Hit Factory Audio Institute)
Dimithri believes he should in his music journey should work music for client’s needs, but he feels not achieved still been just only another cog in the music machine. In year 2015 Dimithri had thought that he needed to create for himself but not for others. Uploading songs to you tube initially had a discourteous awakening with only a very few views. This disappointment had taught him a moral lesson to do better by rallying. Dimithri was adamant to be the producer, lyricist and vocalist of his songs a rare breed indeed one such artiste is very sporadic. Dimithri was compelled to follow this pattern one who could make own lyrics to coincide with his melodies which compelled Dimithri to follow this categorization. Listeners had accused Dimithri of penning this type of lyrics which most people perform behind padlocked doors. Many jealous counterparts as in any other arena cast adverse comments on his achievements saying Dimithri had become popular as his lyrics contain vague words had challenged to compose and sing a song sans those obscure words. He undertook the challenge accepting unhesitatingly and did the video song ‘Rosi Nisa’ which was accepted and played even in radio and FM channels to stun the jealous guys. Dimithri’s music often challenges norms in universal societies. He has penned taboo themes, genuineness cum legitimacy became his ‘mantra’. He got used to channel his emotions directly into his music. Occasional expressions resonates as they are frank, sexuality, desire, intimacy which are accepted dynamisms, yet society dodges them to some extent. , The endeavours of Dimithri sees he is straightforward and truthful. To discard sexuality is rejecting nature itself. The lack of authenticity leads to hitches; Dimitri wants all to be authentic divulging one’s real life to the world.
Ranga Dassanayake had introduced Dimithri to Nilanga Fonseka and Firoza Farook who had commenced the audio studio .With basic experience Dimithri had worked in this audio advertising firm ‘Odlo Vix’ from year 2011 as a trainee music producer and sound engineer of course he fathomed soon to be a sought-after music producer and sound engineer, for about ten years where around three thousand music audio videos were fashioned. At this advertising company many products of reputed firms were made into music videos which were played in many television and radio channels. Initially .Dimithri had founded ‘Dimithri Music’ initially later upgraded it to Dimi3 Music Productions now it is further developed and expanded to Dimi 3 Music Productions Audio, Video, Production and Promotion categories , those prospective clients could choose one of them or all as they opt to. According to the needs of the client the package could be selected , the type of videos are optional Dimithri is able to assist the prospective clients using his innate expertise in utilizing videography too…
At a YouTube channel dialog when questioned after releasing the song video with the peculiar obscure lyrics penned how he feels, shy or guilty the answer from Dimithri was no regrets as his idea has previously transformed into words , the song was released. Dimithri like all novice singers had the nervousness with ‘mike phobia’ as all newcomers who had ultimately developed as famous vocalists. But lately he had not shown any such nervous signs when he sang in radio and television agendas. Always Dimithri believes very humbly that he has not done unique stuffs to the singing culture yet apart from singing songs with videos with obscure words which he believes are words that were used in ancient eras which our pundits are ignorant of. Dimithri has an idea to commence a new entity conception to the music field in common.to the industry accepted by digital platform, television, cinema industry for which planning is proceeding. He targets the mass audiences for satisfaction of fans and for outdoor musical concerts and also for the Intellectual audiences in indoor concerts.
During the time Dimithra was actively involved with ‘Odlo Vix’ advertising in the early 2010 decade near tragedy struck him. As all staff members who were bachelors were working hard were used to have a ‘booze’ together on Friday evenings when they were used to different types of ‘bites’ and ‘chews’. Also, perhaps as Dimithri was earning having money he used to eat pastries like short eats plentifully. During this time, he had bloated to weigh about 96 kilos has had a struggle in getting up in the mornings, with his legs swollen unable to stand up and walk. Dimithri had wisely consulted a physician Dr Sriyantha Mendis at Asiri surgical who said it a scene like arthritis had advised him to test for arthritis and commence taking exercises under a competent physical trainer. On his way back home very apprehensive and disappointed he had seen the dancing class of Chandima Siriwardene in Nugegoda open to which he had participated for about two months previously. Dimithri had spoken to Chandima when the story was related, he had told there is a new class termed Zumba particularly for exercises promising him that within two months his weight could be reduced alarmingly. Instead of checking arthritis Dimithri had attended the dancing class. Within three months Dimithri had reduced his weight by thirty kilos to make his weight 65 kilos. In Zumba classes. Chandima had invited Dimithri to come for Latin dancing classes which Dimithri had agreed instantaneously. With his enthusiasm and development Chandima had allowed Dimitri to conduct the Latin dancing class too while attending to Zumba classes had even delegated to conduct and coordinate classes too. After six months there were Latin dancing competitions initially in year 2013 conducted by Kevin Nugera in which he had triumphed winning two gold medals and a silver medal. Dimithra then had participated in Latin, Salsa and Bachata dancing championships in year 2014 was adjudged winner in beginners category and in all round contest he was placed third .After which Dimitri had not perused in competitions but had continued as Zumba instructor also had been the Zumba instructor for one year at Jike Hilton ,Dimithri had taught Zumba to doctors at the Sri Jayewardenepura hospital for six months, In year 2018 Dimithri had rented out a dancing studio at Talawatugoda to conduct Zumba, Latin dancing for dance enthusiasts .Dimithri from year 2012 to year 2016 had been involved with Zunba, Latin and Hip-hop dancing, but for focussing on music he had stopped dancing events.
Dimitri is often invited to address many television programs though some reluctantly where he speaks out his honest ideas , is invited to indoor and outdoor concerts had visited Australia twice in the recent past Dimithri’s songs could be heard and seen from his YouTube channel Dimi3 some song videos are ‘Wihiluwak Kale’,’Passa’, ‘Puka Denna Epa’,’Wihiluwak Kale’, ‘OA Hinawe’, ‘Rosi Nisa’,’Uncle Ge Aluth Sinduwa’., ‘Jeyshta’, ‘Horu Sambandayen ‘, ‘Aluth Ekak Enawa’,’Nawathanna Behe Dalambuwa’,’Sindu Kiyanna Berida’,’Ahannako’,’’Paan Kellak” ‘Kikili’,Passa’ ( has gone international is to be taken for a film too ) Etc
The lyrics in most of Dimithri’s songs are hilarious to hear lyrics like ‘Mata Asai Handata Yanna”Hande Idan Polowa Diha Balanna’ “Mathaka Ethuwa Beer Bothalayai Beedi Metiyai Geena’,
